(former Senator)Thompson: Libby prosecutor out of control
http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=182739

WASHINGTON - Former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., criticized Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald’s handling of the CIA leak investigation Tuesday, saying the prosecutor had to have known from the start that it was not a crime to disclose Valerie Plame’s identity as an agent.

A fund-raiser for the defense of I. Lewis ”Scooter” Libby, Thompson depicted Fitzgerald as out of control, telling ABC News there was ”no brake and no check and no balance” on the prosecutor.

Thompson’s objections are the same ones Democratic politicians made in the 1990s about independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who spent six years investigating President Clinton and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

”When you put too much power in the hands of unelected, unaccountable people who have every incentive to focus massive resources onto one particular person _ who gets the plaudits in the media for doing so _ it’s a bad thing,” Thompson told ABC.

Thompson, who plays a prosecuting attorney in NBC’s ”Law & Order,” pointed out that no one has been charged with leaking Plame’s identity, saying no law had been broken. ”The Justice Department knew that early on. The CIA should have known that early on,” Thompson said. ”Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald had to have known that at the very beginning.”

Scooter Libby lied to a grand jury while Fitzy was investigating the leak. DUH. I can't stand that guy always flapping his lips about everything. I have stopped watching that show cuz I hate looking at him.

4. Did he hold that same enlightened view
about the sex between consenting adults that fueled the fishing expedition "perjury" trap against Clinton? Let him start there before anyone credits his argumentation on constitutional fine points on the Divine Right of Treason.

8. I love how the Boston Herald states that this is the same as the Dems argument
no the Dem argument was that Lay went on missioncreep with the White Water investigation and ended up with no conviction anyway.

There was no crime there.

Here there was no crime because the law was written so that it was almost impossible to break but yet they little "Scooter" lied anyway. So much for their having "brains" or being adults. Wow he got caught lying about something he couldn't be charged for.

7. "no law had been broken"
Er ... isn't there a law against TREASON. Just because nobody's been charged doesn't mean no law has been broken. Please Fred - you're not a lawyer - you just play one on TV.

9. Well, Mr Senator....I'm sure that you realize that Fitz said he couldn't even get to the
investigating of the crimes involved because of I. Liar Libby's stonewalling and lies, so he has to remove the roadblock, then he can investigate the other crimes involved.

Also, a question Mr. Senator, if it wasn't a crime, then why did the CIA ask for a damage assesment from the leak? Why did I.Liar Libby decide to lie when asked about the leaking? Why did Ari decide that he'd need immunity from prosecution before he could testify?

Since we need to have more oversight, maybe we should open up some Congressional investigations hey Mr. Senator? You know, just like the one you were involved with 30+ years ago, ring any bells? Not the crime, but the coverup.....Anything yet?

12. Thompson, a FUNDRAISER for Libby's defense ...
Of course, he thinks the prosecutor is out of control.

So does Fucker Carlson, whose dad is raising money for Scooby ... It's ridiculous that the credibility of these apologists hasn't been totally *IMPEACHED* ... CONSIDER THE SOURCE!

26. Agreed. I think that's part of the reason why there isn't more outrage.
There are so many cases of impropriety that it's difficult for political junkies to keep up with it all, much less the general public.

This is a trial, not Fox News. Fitz is seeking the truth, not trying to win some "Fair and Balanced" contest :eyes:

I don't think this asshole gives a damn about Libby, he's just pissed that it's making his side look worse than they already are (if that's even possible)and there is no way to spin the facts that are being brought out.

Go Fitz!!
