Will Saddam Trade His WMD Secrets for His Life?
President George W. Bush was careful to sidestep specifics in his apparently candid answers to the questions showered on him by newspersons in the White House Monday, December 15. Calling the captured Iraqi dictator a “torturer” and “murderer”, he said he had his own views about how “Mr. Hussein” should be dealt with, but insisted “my personal views aren’t important in this case.” The President never once referred to a possible death sentence although the views for the former governor of Texas are no secret.

Mr. Hussein, in contrast, has been reported as “wiseassing” his interrogators at some undisclosed US military facility, offering a runaround rather than real intelligence cooperation.

In the view of DEBKAfile’s intelligence experts, the only time the Iraqi ex-ruler made himself clear was when he said in English to the US troops who hauled him out of the hole near Tikrit on Saturday, December 12: “I am Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq, and I want to negotiate.” Since then, the wily former dictator has been feeling his way round to find out what the Bush administration deems negotiable in terms of conditions of detention, place of trial and what will happen to him after he is convicted

1. If he gives us the key to the locker at Fort Hood where Reagan had
Saddams WMD stored, it would seem fair that Saddam get a refund.

:-)

2. Why bother with a trial ...
"and what will happen to him after he is convicted".

It appears they are already assuming conviction, and now the only thing left is what to do with him (ie where to execute him).

Cheers
Drifter

3. I can see it now
"Tell us you had WMD, or we'll kill you."

"In an amazing statement today, Saddam admitted to having WMD all along, but that his dog ate them just before the invasion."

6. But what if his secret is...
"I don't have any WMDs, and haven't since 1995..."

8. That's what he said before the war
and Chimp said that he was lying. They want only one answer. If he says anything else it's a lie.

9. Right, whatever Saddam actually says...
will be regarded as a lie. The words that we put in his mouth, on the other hand, will be expected to be taken as the truth.

7. Is Mossad a Fly on the Wall?
Yesterday this 'news agency' was suggesting that Saddam was a prisoner!--not hiding.
Today--
"Since then, the wily former dictator has been feeling his way round to find out what the Bush administration deems negotiable in terms of conditions of detention, place of trial and what will happen to him after he is convicted"
How come their getting more information than anyone else?
How do they know he is 'wily'?

What crap...

10. I have this bad feeling that
Bush is gonna get everything he wants from Saddam whether it is true or not... WMDs..... 9-11 and a bucket of chicken. ANd the public will have no way to verify these things and will eat them up.

12. No secret: There are no WMDs. He already said it.
The WMD McGuffin is a fiction still clung to by the WH and its corporate media. Anyone with their eyes open and without blood/money ties to BushCo can see this obvious fact. He has no "secrets" to trade; except perhaps where the restof his gold is buried. I think you will find Bremer and crew are more interested in that than Iraqi weapons "programs"
