Saddam Not Heading Insurgency
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/C47A8269-85EA-4EAE-ADCE-9B54AF438B9A.htm

<snip>
A US official has conceded that the manner and circumstances of Saddam Hussein's arrest makes it unlikely he was directing resistance forces in Iraq.

US forces who captured a haggard on Saturday 13 December Saddam found no communications equipment, maps or other evidence of a guerrilla command center at Saddam's hiding place.

"Given the location and circumstances of his capture, it makes it clear that Saddam was not managing the insurgency, and that he had very little control or influence.

"That is significant and disturbing because it means the insurgents are not fighting for Saddam, they're fighting against the United States," said Sen. Jay Rockefeller, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

US intelligence officials have previously said they believe Saddam was too concerned with survival and staying hidden to provide much more than symbolic leadership.

4. "Fighting against the US?"
Oh-oh! That's going to take some real doing to remedy! Let's see the Regime reduce this to a black-and-white B-Movie Western. Let's hear who the Good Guys are one more time?

7. DUH
This observation wins this year's award for "biggest head in the sand". Anyone who thought Saddam was directing the insurgents seriouly needs a professional mental health examination.

9. Having politicians' heads examined - could
we make it part of the new "uninsured" program that Frist is pushing? Uninformed - uninsured - sounds close, don't it?

(On the other hand, you have to be really careful in a high vacuum environment!)

8. terrorists or insurgents
call them what you like...

the problem is that Bush* is thinking along the lines of convential warfare where there is a clearcut "location" and attacking that "location" will result in the defeat of terrorism...

terrorist are not "tied" to a location, there may be countries that provide support - but bombing the crap out of a given country won't crush the terrorists - just look at the war on drugs

10. He also believes there's a finite number of "insurgents."
And if we just go and get them, they'll be gone.

Because all movies end, you know? And John Wayne wins.

Perhaps if someone explained it all to him in terms of a long-running hit TV show...where the bad guy is always out there......but he doesn't watch TV, does he?
