Pelosi set for busy week of celebrations

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi, D-California, is set for a busy week of celebratory events as the 110th Democratic-lead Congress prepares to be sworn in Thursday.

On Wednesday, Pelosi will attend a "Women's Tea" in Washington honoring her as the first female House speaker. She will also celebrate her Italian heritage at a closed-door dinner at the Italian Embassy on Wednesday night.

House members will elect her as speaker on Thursday, after which she will be officially sworn in. Pelosi then delivers the keynote at a $1,000 per-person Democratic fundraising "Celebration Concert," featuring artists Tony Bennett, Carole King and Wyclef Jean.

The entire House Democratic leadership will cap off the week with an "Open House for the People's House" reception Friday morning, before Pelosi heads to her birth-city of Baltimore to have a street named in her honor.

2. It's started !!!
It'll be lots of phony " news " about this woman and we should have rapid response for this kind of nonsense.
I have been around for a long time, and I have never heard or read these type comments about any of the previous SOTH.

The tea party shit really stands out ! what next ? her favorite perfume ? her bra size ?

4. I thought the Women's Tea sounded nice
It is, after all, a rather notable occasion to have the first woman Speaker of the House sworn in.

you'll see what I mean.

But on a positive note: I've met her a couple times in the last 3 years, and she's just as smart as she pretty and a lady in every sense of the word. I'm very proud of her !

9. I hope we don't have too much commentary on what she wears to each event,
the fact that she is a grandmother, etc, but I know that such will be the case. How come we never hear all this shit about MALES in positions of power, dammit?

12. There are times for $20 and times for $1,000 plates
This is a historical week with her being the first female Speaker of the House. I went to a $20 fund raiser for Barbara Boxer in '04. I have received invitations for things for up to $2,000 from Lynn Woolsey. Earlier last year, Devin Nunes brought then Speaker Dennis Hasturd, out to his district for $250 per plate. I believe that was the price. Hasturd and Nunes have never given a dam about people, so it is not the price of this one event.

Speaker Pelosi is now the #3 in the U.S. government. She can command a big price tag, and she might as well when she is rubbing elbows with the upper class. As long as she shares the wealth and has $20 meet and greets back in her home district.

11. Something worth celebrating, to be sure
Yesterday, I was in the car and listened to Ed Schultz for a few tortured minutes. He warned dems about partying during a war. Since Ed's not great for my blood pressure I don't hear him often, which leaves me wondering just how cautionary he was to bush about the 24 WH Christmas parties this year.

STUFF IT, MISTER Schultz. Women have put up with all YOUR parties for a couple of centuries, so put on your dancing shoes Speaker Pelosi!

additional o/t factoid: Ed - bravely, in his estimation, I suppose, as he said he knew he'd take flack for it - schooled his listeners about how Muslims just don't value life the way WE do. :banghead:
