Gas prices begin to tick up

Gas prices begin to tick up

<snip>

An uptick in crude oil prices, among other things, has driven the price of gas back up in Sacramento and across California.

...

Joe Sparano, president of the Western States Petroleum Association, said crude prices have moved back up after OPEC oil ministers talked about cutting production volumes.

But Jamie Court, president of the Santa Monica-based Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, charged that prices are moving up because the election is over.

Court said there was "a political motive to keep gasoline prices low....Now that the election's over, we're going to see prices going up." A Gallup Poll in October found that 42 percent of Americans believed the Bush administration managed to reduce gas prices to help Republicans in the election.

Sparano dismissed the charge as "not factual." He said prices fell during the summer and early fall because the industry, hoping to avoid a repeat of the post-Hurricane Katrina shortages, ratcheted up supplies this year. When the hurricane season fizzled out, the industry was left with a hefty surplus.

3. Maybe we can invite the oil execs back to Congress, under oath this time.
There is some serious collusion going on with oil prices, that's for sure.

5. Well, we knew that was coming.
The bribery didn't work. And then the offer expired. They were only going to dangle this one in front of us long enough to lull us into voting their way. It didn't work. So, what are they? Unmasked as Sore Losermans, that's what they are. But we suspected as much, at least around here.

That ought to allow us to take another 30 seats in the House, 6 more in the Senate, and the WH in '08. Then we can really get this country back on track by sticking a few of these crooked profiteers behind bars where they belong.
