... Governor Owens and members of different law enforcement agencies initially gathered to speak out against Amendment 44.

The amendment would make it legal for people 21 and older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana in Colorado ...

"We're trying to have a legitimate debate, but we're being shouted down by you all," said Owens.

The group SAFER, which supports Amendment 44, shouted things like, "What do we want? A safer choice." ...

1. A legitimate debate?
That would mark the first time for the prohibition side.

6. there is no "legitimate debate"
A Governor is a public servant and not a nobleman. There is no "debating" what the people want.

10. I'm confused -- doesn't the word "debate" imply
a discussion of opposing view-points? If Owens and a group of like-minded folks gathered to "speak out" against the amendment, they were not there to have a debate -- they were there to spout their talking points.

Now by the same token, yelling and protesting isn't debate, either; it really does need to be a civilized discourse -- but since it was a news conference and not a debate, more power to the protesters.

Owens is a total wanker.
