Clark Criticizes Bush's Enemy Challenge
http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2003/12/04/clark/index.html

Dec. 4, 2003 | NASHUA, N.H. (AP) -- Criticizing President Bush for challenging enemy forces to "bring 'em on'' earlier in the Iraq occupation, Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark said Thursday only someone who has not witnessed combat "would ever say anything as fatuous'' as the commander in chief's remark.

"You don't make policy by taunting the enemy,'' said Clark, a retired Army general who was wounded during the Vietnam War. Bush was a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard during the conflict but never flew in battle. "Only someone who hasn't seen war firsthand would ever say anything as fatuous as 'bring 'em on.'"

Clark told students and faculty at Daniel Webster College that Bush had played a game of bait-and-switch by suggesting Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was a national security threat following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.

2. Bush* provides a "target rich" environment for his opponents
in both senses.

Clark and Dean have started attacking bush's weak spots, and there's a lot more where that one came from. I can't think of a single aspect of the bush administration's actions that isn't open to criticism, so they'd better get started. It's very important to get these "pre-emptive" strikes in before bush's media blitz begins in September.

3. Bush has NO ANSWER for Clark
I love it when Clark hammers Bush's manhood. It's a beautiful thing to watch. And Bush has no answer...what's he going to say? He went on a two-hour turkey trot?

4. I guess Clark thinks that
flying in the back seat of a plane making a carrier landing doesn't count as war?

19. he described his religious path as "tortuous"
I was impressed by that.

Then again, his ad reminds us that he speaks four languages, adding cornily, "but his actions speak louder than words." :-)

12. My statement regarding Wesley Clark...
Edited on Thu Dec-04-03 09:00 PM by Gman
I am changing my avatar image today to the Wesley Clark avatar after watching the rerun of Clark's speech on CSPAN today. After carefully listening to Clark's speech, I am officially supporting Clark for president. There's no doubt Clark is the candidate to support.

I wish I could support Carol Mosely Braun or even Al Sharpton as I feel strongly that they represent African Americans in a way that no white candidate can. And after going on 250 years of American independence, African Americans and America in general deserve the insight and wisdom from experience that only an African American candidate can bring. With that being said, I must forgo my heart's desire as a practical matter and support the most viable and accomplished candidate in the race that will treat Americans, including African Americans right, Wesley Clark.

It's not lost on me that my decision to not follow my heart but my head is made in a way that many here won't do when it comes to Howard Dean. Dean supporters who wear their liberal credentials on their sleeves by supporting Dean for all to see causes me great disappointment in my fellow Democrats. My disappointment is that there is not more support here for at least Moseley Braun from people that claim to be true liberals. If liberals truely understand what it is like to be Black in America in 2003 they would be supporting the only African-American candidates in either party. Sadly, too many just don't want to think aout it.

While my heart is behind Moseley Braun and Sharpton, we need to get behind someone that can win, not bring about another McGovern/Dukakis debacle.

I will now entertain questions from the press in attendance... :-)

---on edit---
p.s. I'm not African-American... I'm very white.

a little earlier! i hope that if Dean gets the nomination, you'll be good enough to settle for VP. i'd sure like to see you in the number one position, buddy. you're the first political voice i've trusted since meeting Paul Wellstone shortly before his untimely and highly suspect death.

Though I must admit, I'm so anti-* that I might have donated to whomever I felt had the best chance of de-sellecting the un-elected fraud.

23. Yesterday Clark said that Bush* was installed by the Supreme Court.
"Installed" My jaw dropped, then I laughed. Earlier today Clark's campaign called James Baker the Bush family consigliere. That was also very enjoyable.

consigliere means:
An adviser or counselor, especially to a capo or leader of an organized crime syndicate.
