Lawmaker Asks State To Remove Citgo Gas Stations From Turnpike
http://www.nbc6.net/news/9939356/detail.html
State Rep. Adam Hasner raised the issue following last week's comments by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, who said at the United Nations that President George W. Bush was "the devil." Citgo is owned by the national oil company of Venezuela.

In a letter to the state Department of Transportation, Hasner asked whether the state can terminate the contracts of Citgo gas stations at toll plazas along the Turnpike.

The Delray Beach Republican said in his letter that a clear message needs to be sent to Chávez that the State of Florida "will not support institutions that seek the destabilization of America."

A spokesman for the Department of Transportation would only say that the agency is reviewing the request.

I saw a local TV report in which Rep. Adam Hasner said that Chavez' words about Bush came straight from his boss - Fidel Castro.

As I've said many times before, without Castro - Florida politicians would have almost no platform to run on/against.

1. Then why is Jeb our governor?
If "...the State of Florida 'will not support institutions that seek the destabilization of America.'" then why is a Republican our governor?

3. I'm sure Chavez will be all ripped up to hear that Florida doesn't
want Citgo stations anymore. WAAA.

If Rep. Hasner is concerned about the "destabilization of America" perhaps he should consider introducing Articles of Impeachment for President Bush and Vice President Cheney. What they've done to America is a clear and present danger, and not just a comment that some people feel is correct (Bush=Devil).

4. I only buy Citgo
it helps that they're usually among the cheapest though

A soon to be Sister-In-Law spouted off about how Chavez wanted to "overthrow" the US government, I told her "I do too - that's why we vote" She said she never buys Citgo, of course the rest of us (it was a family reunion - and she and my bro were the only 'Pukes there) told her we all buy Citgo......Funny, my Bro and his bride to be are the only Texans in the family.........

10. my brother says the same
thing, he is fed-up with Citgo gas because what Chavez is trying to do to the US.

He also happens to be against unions and union membership in general.

Do I see a pattern here?

The sad thing about it is that he is a working stiff like me!

I guess China will be happy to hear that Chavez can't sell its gasoline to the USA anymore. So a lot of Chinese communist motorists will also happily support the good Republican's proposal!

This isn't exactly a supply and demand issue, like good old-fashioned capitalism was supposed to work this way.

6. Apparently a similar battle is being joined in Boston. The large CITGO
sign there is practically iconic on the city skyline. Even during the "energy crisis" it was left lit. (Commonly seen in the background on any Fenway Park baseball game telecast...it's in Kenmore Square).

11. What would happen if
we Americans, particularly Northeastern tourists, snowbirds, and retirees, didn't support the State of Florida, Rep. Hasner?

It would have a far bigger impact that the State of Florida boycotting CITGO.

When the President of a FOREIGN country is supplying low cost oil to the poor people of one of the largest American Cities (NYC), I say HE cares more than the Resident in the American White House does.

Screw you, Rep. Hanser.

My apologies to Floridan DUERS. Zero apologies to anybody there who supports this crap.

13. Used to run up and down
the FL Turnpike all the time btw Tampa and Delray. Must have spent some money at Citgo back then. Usually went to Texaco IIRC at home.
That's Delray's state rep? Looks about as intelligent as our old rep, Victor Crist.
