McCain faults administration on Iraq
McCain faults administration on Iraq
By JOHN McCARTHY, Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Republican Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), a staunch defender of the Iraq war, on Tuesday faulted the Bush administration for misleading Americans into believing the conflict would be "some kind of day at the beach."

The potential 2008 presidential candidate, who a day earlier had rejected calls for withdrawing U.S. forces, said the administration had failed to make clear the challenges facing the military.

"I think one of the biggest mistakes we made was underestimating the size of the task and the sacrifices that would be required," McCain said. "Stuff happens, mission accomplished, last throes, a few dead-enders. I'm just more familiar with those statements than anyone else because it grieves me so much that we had not told the American people how tough and difficult this task would be."

Those phrases are closely associated with top members of the Bush administration, including the president.

1. Distancing himself from the Chimp
Good move for him. He can say he supports the (illegal) war yet he can say the Shrub is doing it all wrong and he can do it better.

Screw him. You'd think a former POW would be a little more reluctant to like war.

2. I'm not a McCain apologist.
I used to have some grudging respect for him, but no more. I think he's a toady and a hypocrite (that is to say, he's a Republican).

But remember that at all times, McCain is doing whatever he thinks he needs to do in order to survive another day. Just like when he was a POW.

6. Where the hell was he in 2003
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 02:13 PM by Eugene
when the neocons were saying "cakewalk?"

Sen. McCain knew this was bulls*** but, when it really mattered,
he went along with it. He prostituted his credibility for this war.
And now he's trying to walk away. It is much too late.

And while we're on the subject of realism, what has he said about
the Bushie's rosy predictions for their upcoming adventure in Iran?

8. Cowards, such as McCain, argue how the invasion should have been conducted
instead of dealing with the fact that America never should have invaded Iraq in the first place. That Bush lied America into invading Iraq.

For the cowards, who are too afraid to address the real issue, debating the method of invasion is safer than dealing with the ugly truth.

It would not have mattered if America invaded Iraq with 500k troops or 160k troops...the invasion was still based on lies.
