AP: Hezbollah-fired rockets strike Israel city

By Gabe Ross, Associated Press Writer | July 21, 2006

HAIFA, Israel --At least five rockets struck the port city of Haifa on Friday,
wounding 10 people.

Air raid sirens wailed shortly after 1:10 p.m., and the first of what appeared
to be three rockets struck the city. Smoke rose from near the city center and
near the main port.

Rescue officials said that 10 people were injured. There were no reports
of fatalities.

3. The rockets are rocket powered mortar shells. Tracking their
trajectories is simple for any advance military. Israel could stop the rockets in 24 hrs when ever they decide to do it.

I don't know what the Hezbollah thinks they are accomplishing. They are inflicting no strategic damage on Israel, only the deaths and injury of a few civilians. All the while, giving the media and Israel a great excuse to continue the obliteration of Lebanon.

16. Are you insinuating
that all they care for is money? That they care about the economy more than the lives of their citizens?

19. Hezbolah wants political power and a Lebanon in rubble is just collateral
damage.

23. If that's true, and it may well be, Hezbollah and Israel are partners
in destroying Lebanon. Hez knows they can't defeat Israel with their pathetic piece meal attacks. There's got to be some idea in the back of their minds that made them think they could "tweak Israel"
and get away with it.

A second volley was fired just after 2:45 p.m., bringing to at least 11 the number
of rockets that hit the city.

More rockets were fired elsewhere into northern Israel, too, the army said, with strikes
reported in Rosh Pina, Safed and in several communities near the Sea of Galilee.

6. Perhaps a warnig hit ?
Perhaps they are just trying to show they can reach major population areas with bombs that will deliver a stronger payload ,I believe its a stupid thing ,for any so called milatary force to show its hand. It simply gives your enemy time to prepare and retaliate, then again what the heck do I know ?

A barrage of Hezbollah rockets fired from Lebanon slammed into the northern Israeli city of Haifa on Friday, wounding at least 19 people, medics said.

Rockets also hit several other northern towns.

One missile hit an apartment building in Haifa. Sirens sounded shortly before the rockets struck.

<snip>

Hizbollah has fired more than 900 missiles in total at dozens of towns and villages, killing 15 Israeli civilians. Nineteen Israeli soldiers have also been killed during the Jewish state's offensive.

8. Please forgive me for this.
I am heartsick and absolutely sick of this!

Bombs here, missiles there, shells here, guns there. Another 15 here, 300 there, 2558 (last that I saw) troops dead, I've lost count of the thousands wounded. How many dead in Iraq? I just saw a headline that an Iraqi woman and 2 children were killed in a raid. Sudan, Rwanda, Darfur, and on and on.

I'm sick of blood, death and destruction everywhere.

Sorrow here.

17. This Topic
It's interesting to me that we begin with an original post of a news report stating that an Israeli city was bombed by Hezbollah and by the 19th comment we have:

"Israel==Nazi"

As a new poster (but long time lurker), I can understand why normally posts about this topic are relegated to a separate forum with unique rules.

There is, I think, a powerful distinction between posting that the Israeli government is fascist and posting "Israel==Nazi".

18. *sigh*
I always wonder what all those "message deleted" or "deleted sub-thread" messages were before they were moderatown3d. I almost wish they stayed on, but it would make DU look bad, and there are already far too many watching eyes that would gladly trumpet that "the lubruhls hate teh jews and america" because of one jackass poster.
