Minutemen not watching over funds
Minutemen not watching over funds
By Jerry Seper
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published July 20, 2006

A growing number of Minuteman Civil Defense Corps leaders and volunteers are questioning the whereabouts of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in donations collected in the past 15 months, challenging the organization's leadership over financial accountability.

Many of the group's most active members say they have no idea how much money has been collected as part of its effort to stop illegal entry -- primarily along the U.S.-Mexico border, what it has been spent on or why it has been funneled through a Virginia-based charity headed by conservative Alan Keyes.

~snip~

Gary Cole, the Minutemen's former national director of operations, was chief liaison to the national press corps during the group's April 2005 border watch in Arizona. He was one of the first to raise questions about MCDC finances. He personally collected "tens of thousands of dollars" in donations during the 30-day border vigil. But despite numerous requests -- many directly to Mr. Simcox -- he was never told how much money had been collected or where it went.

~snip~

....Mr. Keyes has financially endorsed and supported the Minuteman organization as programs of Declaration Alliance and the Declaration Foundation, another Virginia-based charitable organization that he heads. He accused internal MCDC critics of being "decidedly racist and anti-Semitic," saying they had been removed as members of the Minuteman organization.

4. El Paso
is where my son lives. I asked him if they had stopped the great and fearsome brown scourge from crossing the streets in town because as I understand it one side of town is in the USA and the other is in Mexico. They cross back and forth at will, for Gods sake. Meanwhile in Oregon the blueberries and strawberries are rotting on the vines. But, hells bells I feel so much safer. Mean while I hope those gun happy, white supremacists, have to sit out in the effing desert with out a sandwich and potapotty until they starve and their bladders burst. I hope they die of heat prostration first. Maybe they gave all the lost donations to some nice Mexican families, (whose fathers and brothers won't have $5.00 an hour jobs any more to support themselves), so they can live. I'm glad the donations are missing. Those people have no integrity, humanity, or intelligence. Some twink has made off with the funds the same way they have absconded with the funds meant for Iraq reconstruction. Same mentality. Same integrity level. Just ignorant hick, dumbfucks.

5. ah--trouble trouble. --top lietenaunts have quit

....Several of the group's top lieutenants have either quit or are threatening to do so, saying requests to Minuteman President Chris Simcox for a financial accounting have been ignored.
Other Minuteman members said money promised for food, fuel, radios, computers, tents, night-vision scopes, binoculars, porta-potties and other necessary equipment and supplies never reached volunteers who have manned observation posts to spot and report illegal border crossers.

9. ..Absent accounting

..Absent accounting
Mr. Simcox, in an interview last week with The Washington Times, estimated that about $1.6 million in donations have been collected, all of it handled through the Herndon-based Declaration Alliance, founded and chaired by Mr. Keyes. He said the donations, solicited on the group's Web site and during cross-country appearances, included $1 million directly to MCDC and $600,000 for a fence on the U.S.-Mexico border.
But Mr. Simcox's numbers could not be independently verified, including claims in a 3,961-word statement issued after the interview that he spent $160,000 on "our last two monthlong border-watch operations."
The Minuteman organization has not made any financial statements or fundraising records public since its April 2005 creation. It also has sought and received extensions of its federal reporting requirements and has not given the Minuteman leadership, its volunteers or donors any official accounting. A financial statement promised to The Times by Mr. Simcox for May was never delivered.

14. K&R forBwahahahahah!!!!!11 These bozos shoot themselves in the foot again
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 06:22 PM by UTUSN
If only they weren't so hateful, they could be keystone kkops.

Before this: 1- there they were, patrolling Vermont with FOUR(4) a-holes, getting thrown OUT of a VT town by the good people there, then they wandered around lost in the woods, and CROSSED THE BORDER inadvertantly, themselves becoming ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!!!!!!11 They were perfectly TRANSPARENT about the window dressing of FOUR a-holes on the NORTHERN border so that they could counter their racism disproportionally on the SOUTHERN border.

2- Then they were squandering THEIR OWN MONEY with their pathetic 10-mile wall in AZ, and they were using MEXICAN CONCRETE. Univision showed a stack of bags with the HUGH!1 logo, "Mezcla Concreto Mexicano."

3- After that same wall was finished, the owner of the property requested that they install STEPS over the fence because the uninvited visitors were tearing down sections, the steps being for them to climb over without needing to TEAR IT DOWN!!!11

4- And now this.

19. FReeper hero Chris Simcox
Similarly, Dobbs has interviewed Minutemen Project founder Chris Simcox without disclosing some of the more unsavory facts about him. He did not mention, for example, that Simcox’s wife had gotten a court order for custody of his teenage son because she feared that he had suffered a mental breakdown and was dangerous. Simcox ranted to anyone who would listen about what he believed would be imminent nuclear attacks on Los Angeles. He left frightening voicemail messages to his wife and son about war and destruction, including one in which Simcox stated that he would teach his son how to use guns:

I have purchased another gun. I have more than a few weapons. … I intend to teach my son how to use them. ... I will no longer trust anyone in this country. ... My life has changed forever, and if you don’t get that, you’re brainwashed like everyone else. … I’m going to go down to the Mexican border…and protect the borders of the country I love. You hear how serious I am.

Another choice answering machine excerpt: “I am dead serious…I will not speak to my son or anyone again unless you can recite at least the preamble of the Constitution.” Like many other anti-immigrant spokespeople Dobbs has interviewed, Simcox has connections with hate groups. He spoke at a convention affiliated with Barbara Coe’s CCIR and stated that illegal immigrants were “jeering at little girls walking on their way to school.” At least there is some comic relief here: when Simcox was arrested for carrying a weapon in a national park, he was also carrying a Wyatt Earp action figure.

Simcox is clearly paranoid and delusional, but instead of directing him to a psychiatric ward, Dobbs gave him a legitimate platform to spread his message. It’s hard not to conclude that Dobbs shares Simcox’s paranoia. However, this paranoia has struck a chord in America precisely because of the times we live in. We are in the midst of a war on terror fought mainly in the shadows by a government whose corruption, lawlessness, and incompetence defy reasonable explanation. Corporations wield unparalleled influence in Washington, and all of this is abetted by a press that at best could be called docile, at worst an unofficial branch of the government. Along with Dobbs and the Barbara Coes of this country, we focus the sum of our anger, fear, and powerlessness on the “illegals” without confronting the ultimately more disturbing truths about our part in refusing to hold the powerful responsible. Rage is an appropriate reaction to the dire problems of our time. But this rage should be focused against those who bear real responsibility for our problems: the members of both parties on Capitol Hill who have sold us to the highest bidder.

Simcox has taken in hundreds of thousands of dollars...if not millions. He has built a 2.2 mile fence that could be climbed over by a 10 year old child with 2 legs and a pair of shoes. If I had contributed money I would be pissed.
Simcox has many excuses, but the fact remains he has utilized only $17,000 and he expects morons to give him millions more based upon that pathetic performance. I hope he gets lots of suckers before he is hauled away to prison for embezzlement. Good Luck Chris.

"A former kindergarten teacher, Mr. Simcox said in the statement that he will request "a modest salary to maintain my role as president of MCDC," and if the Minuteman board and national directors do not agree, "it will be necessary for me to leave the organization and return to teaching -- or I may need to go get a job at Wal-Mart or Home Depot."
