Polls Show N.J. Senate Race About Even

TRENTON, N.J. Jul 17, 2006 (AP)— Republican Tom Kean Jr. has pulled about even with incumbent Robert Menendez in New Jersey's U.S. Senate race, according to two polls released Monday.

The Quinnipiac University poll showed 40 percent of respondents in the heavily Democratic state favored Kean while 38 percent backed the Democrat Menendez and 18 percent were undecided.

However, 48 percent of those who selected a candidate said they might change their mind before the November election. The poll of 985 registered voters, taken during July 8-12, has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

A second poll, conducted by Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey, showed Menendez with 38 percent, Kean with 37 percent, and 20 percent undecided. The poll of 670 registered voters, taken from July 11-13, has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

2. With the powers of incumbency...
... and the terrible GOP record, how could the GOP candidate be even with the Dem incumbent?

Has Menendez been terrible?

3. Menendez Bad For New Jersey?
That's what I want to know.

What's Menendez done that's so terrible that people want to bounce him from the Senate after less than a year? Or are New Jerseyites just so enamored with Kean because of who his daddy is? Somebody throw me a bone here...

4. Charges of corruption have followed him for quite a while.
People just don't like the guy. He wasn't even elected to the senate. Corzine appointed him as his replacement.

5. This could be one of the biggest fiascos of the year...
for the DEMS. Corzine gave up a safe US senate seat to run for Gov... even though there was a competent and popular sitting DEM Gov ( Cody).

The party poobahs 'persuaded' Cody to step aside for moneybags Corzine who coasted to victory by deploying several million of his $$$$.

Why give up the safe seat? Corzine , it was said , was "bored".

Jesus.

And he handpicked Menendez as his successor.
