Nicaragua's Ortega says US aims to block return
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (Reuters) - Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega told regional observers on Friday the U.S. and Nicaraguan governments were working together to try to disqualify him from November's presidential election.

Ortega, a former president and leader of Nicaragua's leftist Sandinista revolution, is seeking to return to power and has clashed in recent months with the U.S. envoy and the country's main right-wing parties.

1. Of course
If he expected anything different then he just isn't paying attention. Nicaragua belongs to corporate US lock, stock and barrel. Hopefully Ortega has an arsenal of his own to beat back US interests or he will just be dead meat.

2. but time has been on the side of the leftists south of the border
--back in the 80s Ortega was essentially on his own, in terms of support from allies, with the possible exception of the USSR and a very few others. Now he's got a big bloc on his side in that region.
