An unrepentant Ann Coulter Wednesday blasted into Huntington, hometown to 34 people killed on Sept. 11, to promote her new book in which she attacks victims' widows as "witches" and "harpies."

But in a town where a dozen roadways are named in honor of those who died that day, few took to New York Avenue to protest the bookstore signing of the conservative author.

Instead, a defiant Coulter was met with more than 300 spirited fans at an event broadcast live to hundreds of radio stations by conservative commentator -- and Huntington Town resident -- Sean Hannity.

And she made a show of tearing up a letter of protest handed to her by a town official.

Meanwhile, Coulter is also registered to vote in New Canaan, Conn. - though the local registrar told the Daily News yesterday it's illegal to be registered in two places at once ...

Senator Clinton, of course, had to respond. If I lived in Palm Beach or New Canaan, I would be pressing for some action, and if I lived in Huntington, I would certainly call the bookstore. But, for the most part, why give her publicity?

Richard Klein sold a few hundred copies of Ann Coulter's new book Wednesday when the conservative commentator appeared at his Huntington bookstore.

But he may think twice before inviting her back.

"There has been an adverse reaction, more than I anticipated," Klein said. "I may have made a mistake."

The Book Revue co-owner, Klein said some regular customers objected to Coulter's appearance to promote the book, in which she calls widows of some 9/11 victims "witches" and "harpies." During the appearance, Coulter ripped up a letter from a Huntington Town Board member who objected to her comments ...

I would have been out there protesting. This evil woman, my God, the things she said at that live interview yesterday. I have been sick to my stomach, not only by what she said, and Hannity agreed with, but by the 300 evil people who showed up and cheered when she said that the deceased men were probably going to divorce their harpy wives anyway.

As a woman whose husband was disabled by 9/11, and he is now out of the NYC fire department because of that tragedy, I am personally affronted by her comments and behavior. ...as you rightly pointed out not fighting back has been a big problem for Dems (in case anyone hasn't noticed). But really, with Coulter it is all about her. This is her standard shtick and it doesn't appeal to anyone but the farthest right of the RW nutjobs. Frankly, she could care less whether she has 3,000 for her or 3,000 pillorying her. It's all just publicity. The Swift Boaters had an agenda, to misrepresent and smear Kerry. That he and his campaign didn't fight back was sad. Believe me itzamirakul, I agree with your basic premise 100%, I just think that she is a much more marginal figure than some realize. She's not winning any "hearts and minds" believe me. She's just raking in $$$ from her "controversial" remarks and appearances and laughing all the way to the bank. Most of her books are bought by RW organizations and think-tanks, not by individuals actually shelling out the money for this bilge. Even Nora O'Donnell and Howard Fineman called her out yesterday on the glaringly misnamed "Hardball". Matthews, of course, didn't have the cojones to outright criticize her, but he did characterize the people that actually shell out dollars for this tripe as nebbishes trying to look cool.

The angry response from Dems should be directed toward the administration policies and the disinformation they spew in campaigns. But Coulter, really is not worth the trouble.

...I agree 100%. And btw, I called the bookstore via the phone number you kindly provided and had a polite conversation with the owner. He said he didn't like Coulter and disagreed with her but "didn't want to be a censor". I said that she is free to say what she wants and that by not booking her is in no way stifling free speech. I asked him why he provided the platform for her views and he replied that he has had Al Franken, Joe Conason and other progressives at the store as well. I said that none of the people he named were the left-wing equivalent of Coulter in terms of the extreme nature of the respective views. He conceded a couple of times that he "might have made a mistake" in booking her, and seemed sorry that he did. Coulter may have had 300 supporters at the signing, but it sounds like he has had at least twice that many calls today that have been anti-Coulter. He also said he really appreciated the civil tone I used in talking to him. It sounds like most of the other callers weren't as measured in their remarks.

I recently auditioned actors for a project and had a trangenderd man audition as a woman. The other people working with me on the auditions did't realize it was a man until I pointed it out.

He was obvious to me the second I saw him. They always are. Like Coulter he had long bleached blonde hair, only his roots weren't showing like coulters usually are.

Coulters book signing tour is probably going to come to seattle so I'm going to make it a point to be there to check him out personally - his adams apple, hands, feet, and facial structure.
