Iraq: Minister for Culture Resigns
The newly formed Iraqi government had to face its first defection Tuesday with the resignation of culture minister Asaad Kamal Majeed al-Husseiny, according to Iraqi television reports. The gap left when al-Husseiny quit was promptly filled through the appointment of Suleiman al-Jumeily as new minister for culture.

Sources close to Baghdad's government reported that al-Husseiny, a representative of the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party, opted to return to studying for a PhD rather than embrace a ministerial role.

After British prime minister Tony Blair's visit to Baghdad on Monday, Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki pledged to find suitable figures for the roles of minister of interior, minister of defence and minister of security as soon as possible.

1. Uh oh, does this mean we didn't turn a corner after all?
Missing ministers of interior, defense, security and now culture. I wonder how many ministers there are in total? Do four vacant ministry seats constitute a significant gap? I suppose not having a minister of defense or security should be rather alarming, no? Or does pointing that out hurt the troops, help the terrorists and make the baby Jesus cry?

2. Look how "stable" this new government is! That's for sure "progress" and
a sign that "Freedom is on the March"!
