LSU preps for Cheney appearance

Preparations are just about complete for Friday's graduation ceremony at LSU. Vice President Dick Cheney is scheduled to deliver the commencement address before 3,200 graduates and their guests.

Crews spent Thursday securing the area surrounding the Pete Maravich Assembly Center by setting up barricades and removing several trash cans.

LSU Police plan to close North Stadium Road or Powerhouse Lane during the ceremony, and traffic is expected to be congested on Nicholson Drive.

Adams said duffel bags and backpacks will not be allowed into the ceremony, and neither will knives, mace, pepper spray and signs -- either oversized or attached to sticks. Everyone in attendance will also have to go through metal detectors.
