U.S. ambassador says no plans to put National Guard on northern border at 17:33 on May 17, 2006, EST.

REGINA (CP) - The United States has no plans to deploy National Guard troops to improve security along its northern border, the U.S. ambassador to Canada said Wednesday.

David Wilkins emphasized that President George W. Bush's plans to tighten border security with Mexico have nothing to do with Canada.

"That should have no impact on our northern border," Wilkins told reporters in Regina, where he was meeting with provincial politicians and giving a speech to the Saskatchewan Trade Export Partnership.

"I know there has been some speculation in Canada that the same thing is going to happen up here, and I am doing my best to dispel that."

I'm biting my tongue right now, because this rather casual "not many brown people up there" and "Canadians are all white" crap really gets my blood boiling. Canadians come in all colours, ethnicities, races and religions. We are NOT a "white" country. This off-hand racism pisses me off. /rant
