"It's all about the Duke Cunningham scandal," a senior law enforcement official told the Daily News in reference to Goss' resignation.

CIA boss Goss is cooked

BY RICHARD SISK and JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

WASHINGTON -

(snip)

Kyle (Dusty) Foggo, the No. 3 official at the CIA, could soon be indicted in a widening FBI investigation of the parties thrown by defense contractor Brent Wilkes, named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the bribery conviction of former Rep. Randall (Duke) Cunningham, law enforcement sources said.

A CIA spokeswoman said Foggo went to the lavish weekly hospitality-suite parties at the Watergate and Westin Grand hotels but "just for poker."

Intelligence and law enforcement sources said solid evidence had yet to emerge that Goss also went to the parties, but Goss and Foggo share a fondness for poker and expensive cigars, and the FBI investigation was continuing.

Larry Johnson, a former CIA operative and a Bush administration critic, said Goss "had a relationship with Dusty and with Brent Wilkes that's now coming under greater scrutiny."

(snip)

"It's all about the Duke Cunningham scandal," a senior law enforcement official told the Daily News in reference to Goss' resignation. Duke, a California Republican, was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after pleading guilty in November to taking $2.4 million in homes, yachts and other bribes in exchange for steering government contracts.

Goss' inability to handle the allegations swirling around Foggo prompted John Negroponte, the director of National Intelligence, who oversees all of the nation's spy agencies, to press for the CIA chief's ouster, the senior official said. The official said Goss is not an FBI target but "there is an impending indictment" of Foggo for steering defense contracts to his poker buddies.

(snip)

"Supposedly the \ scandal was the last straw," the source said. "This administration may be on the verge of a major scandal."

1. Well... I read in another thread here on DU
that Goss is about to throw his hat in the ring for the same senate seat that Katherine Harris is running for in Florida.

9. That's what he was offered to get him out of the CIA
However, I have a sneaking suspicion that there is much more at work than a case of boys will be boys with a roomful of party girls at the Watergate.

Given his very recent attempt to gag all the agents he purged for being Democrats or "disloyal" and prevent them from writing anything critical of the present administration, I have a gut feeling that there is one hell of a book on the way and he was forced out for failing to prevent it.

Also, whenever Wilkes's name comes up, you can bet there is another bit of spiderweb of massive GOP/military/arms dealer corruption coming to light.

After all, this is a party that was tolerant of a homosexual prostitute having sleepovers in the White House. They are not going to get their undies in a wad over a few call girls.

11. Only the dumbest people in charge of national security
I think I get the jist of what you're saying: "lord, let my enemies be stupid", or something.

But still, having not-too-bright, compromised, and corrupt nincompoops in charge of security leaves me woozy.

It's also kind of sad, knowing that THESE douche bags are put up on the world stage as the best America can produce.

6. BBC: Goss said the reason for his departure would stay a "mystery".
We know that Bush never tells the truth, so we must interpret the BBC headline as meaning the complete opposite of what it says:

Bush denies CIA boss forced out

A White House spokeswoman said there was a "collective agreement" the CIA needed a new leader now.

However, Mr Goss said the reason for his departure would stay a "mystery".

Speaking on Saturday, Mr Goss declined to comment on his departure, telling CNN that "it's one of those mysteries."

8. He would need to be approved by the senate which would
expose all of his fascist background hopefully, then again we could get another recess appointment
like Bolton. I agree he is bad news.

10. You knows, it's some kind of arrogance to think
that one can be involved in this sort of thing--which is obviously pretty big--and not eventually be caught.

My level of disgust with this whole group in DC rises every day (and some days I just don't see how it can get any higher).

15. I'm right there with you
Too many are interested in power and getting re-elected. Too much influence peddling. Both sides.

And the lobby groups have way too much influence and power.
