Farmer-Owned Wind Turbines Go Online (Bush to cut funding)

2006-04-27 Worthington, Minnesota (RenewableEnergyAccess.com)

The Wolf Family, farming for generations in Southwestern Minnesota near Worthington, flipped the switch on five wind turbines at a special USDA event on Monday. The Wolf Wind project will boost rural income, create jobs and generate enough locally owned clean electricity to power as many as 5,000 homes.

However, the federal farm program that made this tremendous economic opportunity happen is slated for a major funding reduction in the President's budget bill. The President's budget for FY2007 recommends slashing this program by more than 50%, from $23 million per year nationwide, to only $10.2 million, according to the Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC).

The ELPC says these cuts come at a time of increasing need for clean renewable energy and rural development and that the President's cuts would reduce the opportunity for others to benefit from this increasingly popular program. Applications in 2005 reached an all time high of 388 last year, but funding only allowed awards to 150 farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses.

3. Revenue from wind turbines, biogas generators and photovoltaic arrays
would significantly offset the impact of rising oil and gas prices on farm incomes.

One would think this would be a good thing for farmers.

Apparently the GOP doesn't see it this way....

6. They see it, they just don't care.
If it was factory farms wanting it, we might see a different course of action. They donate lots and lots of money.

7. But the GOP is the party of families, farmers & small business creation
well, at least that's what they always say until they've gotten elected. Then it's Tax Cuts and Trickle Down.

I surely hope America in general has had enough of being Trickled upon...

8. Recommend. More proof that GOP is all talk about getting off oil addiction
We need to highlight every one of these instances where it shows the GOP and Bush are all about rewarding oil companies and against alternative energy. This will help fuel Democrats to November wins without a doubt.

9. If we had stayed the course
If we had stayed the course of Energy Conservation and Alternative Energy Sources back in the 80s it is scary to think where we might be by now….

We probably would NOT be in Iraq

14. I lost count a long time ago. Bush wouldn't know how to "walk the walk"
even if someone held his hand and took him along the fenced walkway with neon painted footprints to help show him the way.

He's the biggest darn hypocritical lying POS to ever call themselves president.
