LAT: Chief 9/11 Architect Critical of Bin Laden (interesting article!)
Chief 9/11 Architect Critical of Bin Laden
Mohammed told U.S. interrogators his boss' actions nearly derailed the terrorist mission.
By Josh Meyer, Times Staff Writer
April 5, 2006

WASHINGTON — To hear Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed tell it, Osama bin Laden was a meddling boss whose indiscretion and poor judgment threatened to derail the terrorist attacks.

He also saddled Mohammed with at least four would-be hijackers who the ringleader thought were ill-equipped for the job. And he carelessly dropped hints about the imminent attacks, violating Mohammed's cardinal rule against discussing the suicide hijacking plot.

The repeated conflicts between the two Al Qaeda leaders emerged last week during the penalty phase of the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person charged in the United States in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks. Jurors heard new details of the plot from the interrogation summaries of several captured Al Qaeda officials, including an extraordinary account of a series of interrogations of Mohammed.

Mohammed described Al Qaeda in a written statement for his U.S. interrogators as an almost mystically efficient corporation that operates in ways Americans would never understand.

The portly Kuwaiti, who had studied engineering in the U.S. and was captured in Pakistan in 2003, told his interrogators that they could learn a lot from Al Qaeda, the organization....

1. The transcripts omitted all the shreiks and moans from the torture
the US employed to get the guy to say exactly what they wanted to hear.

2. Agreed, none of this is credible thanks to the "interrogation techniques."
They tortured this guy more than anyone. Over two minutes of waterboarding at a time, when no one lasts more than 30 seconds.

3. Why they would allow this bullshit at the trial is beyond me.
They have never produced Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and as a matter of fact have had trials discontinued in other countries because they won't let any defense question this guy and no one has ever even seen him. It is all a bunch of crap. This guy is a figment of someone's imagination.

6. I wonder if Bin Laden's audiences are screened

It's fascinating - if true - that we're all saddled with big-mouthed, self-important incompetent leaders who are poor judges of personnel.

13. memory hole: Khalid was reported killed in an earlier raid
Originally from Asia Times, Oct 30 2002:

Now it has emerged that Kuwaiti national Khalid Shaikh Mohammed did indeed perish in the raid, but his wife and child were taken from the apartment and handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in whose hands they remain.

...

Later, the Pakistani press carried pictures of a message scrawled in blood on the wall of the flat, proclaiming the Muslim refrain of Kalma, in Arabic: "There is no God except Allah, Mohammed is his messenger"). An official who was present in the flat at the time of the shooting has told Asia Times Online that the message was written by Shaikh Mohammed with his own blood as his life drained from him.

Subsequently, to their surprise, the raiders learned that Ramzi Binalshibh had been netted in the swoop. And nothing further was said of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.

But now it emerges that an Arab woman and a child were taken to an ISI safe house, where they identified the Shaikh Mohammed's body as their husband and father. The body was kept in a private NGO mortuary for 20 days before being buried, under the surveillance of the FBI, in a graveyard in the central district of Karachi.
