Bill Gives Bush $92B for Wars, Hurricanes
By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer

President Bush would get $92 billion more for Iraq and Gulf Coast hurricane relief under a bill rushing toward overwhelming House approval despite lawmakers' concerns about the war and the recovery effort.

Less than eight months before voters decide control of Congress, lawmakers were eager to vote to back troops in the field and help hurricane reconstruction, even at a time of massive budget shortfalls. Passage was expected Thursday.

"Concerns about the deficit and spending are overridden by the urgent issues before us — supporting our troops and helping the hurricane victims," said Rep. Joe Wilson (news, bio, voting record), R-S.C.

The bulk of the bill, $67.6 billion, would pay for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Once approved, the money would boost to nearly $400 billion the total spent on the conflicts and operations against terrorism since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Wasn't this the bill they were going to amend with the Dubai ports language? Is that still in play?

3. Makes me want to do my taxes right now
I know I'm getting a refund this year, and I will look for every legal avenue that I can to get back as much of my tax money as I can, so as to limit the money that goes to George Bush's war machine.

5. only in america do we give a thief a hundred billion
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 05:48 PM by sweetheart
I feel so priviledge to be so ripped off, words fail to
communicate the deep profound distress this patriot has at watching thieves
sack the government and steal us in to a generation of debt, where the
empire is mortgaged to the hilt, with the only victors being the super
super uber transnational wealthy and their corporate masters.

Government by the corporations for the super wealthy with the whole world
carved up in to a giant prison complex, where nations are re-classified as
maximum security, to open prisons. So canada might be an open prison, whereas
georgia may become a maximun security prison, where cell blocks of rich folks
are protected from the cell blocks of poor underclasss persons by walls and
maximal guards.

And then when our privacy is gone, and the guards lurk in every corner, awaiting
the pretense, the warden can revel at the power of reducing an entire population
to his slaves. All hail the big warden and maximum security prison state iraq,
welcome to the "united prison states" of the world, and we are cynically overjoyed
to pay for the total destruction of liberal democracy in the need for new prisons.

America now has the world's highest prison population, bar none... it is the world's
prison fantasy, where everyone is so drugged up on cable TV they have no need to
see outside their cell... all the better.

Then buffy the vampire slayer is a progressive in a world of republican walking dead,
police, military gunmen and prison guards. Talk about frivolous waste...
