Poll: Bush Ratings At All-Time Low

(CBS) The latest CBS News poll finds President Bush's approval rating has fallen to an all-time low of 34 percent, while pessimism about the Iraq war has risen to a new high.

Americans are also overwhelmingly opposed to the Bush-backed deal giving a Dubai-owned company operational control over six major U.S. ports. Seven in 10 Americans, including 58 percent of Republicans, say they're opposed to the agreement.

The troubling results for the Bush administration come amid reminders about the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina and negative assessments of how the government and the president have handled it for six months.

In a separate poll, two out of three Americans said they do not think President Bush has responded adequately to the needs of Katrina victims. Only 32 percent approve of the way President Bush is responding to those needs, a drop of 12 points from last September’s poll, taken just two weeks after the storm made landfall.

I mean tailors working on call, clothes created on 24 hours notice! The public won't stand for this showboating when New Orleans sits unaddressed, Medicare is a jumble, Iraq is in disarray and our government is aimless. This guy and his team are toast.

Cheney's ratings are currently at about 24%, according to Ed Schulz, altho I've heard they go as low as 19% (lower if margin of error is factored in).

The Case for Impeachment
By Lewis H. Lapham
Harper's Magazine

Monday 27 February 2006

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022706C.shtml

"""To take away the excuse," he said, "that we didn't know." So that two or four or ten years from now, if somebody should ask, "Where were you, Conyers, and where was the United States Congress?" when the Bush Administration declared the Constitution inoperative and revoked the license of parliamentary government, none of the company now present can plead ignorance or temporary insanity, can say that "somehow it escaped our notice" that the President was setting himself up as a supreme leader exempt from the rule of law.""

No excuses. Congress in '06 must change hands.

So here is the puzzle piece that I can't get to fit.

2) How can they possible allow the opposition party to have subpoena power?

188. "covey of"? I think "coven of" is more apt and, besides,
don't insult quail (which, Cheney's best attempts notwithstanding) come in covey(s) or covies (not sure of plural spelling).

However, "coven of" may do a dis-service to witches and pagans, who tend to associate in covens.

"Gaggle of sociopaths"?

160. Weird favorable/unfavorable numbers.
Bush favorable -- 29
Bush unfavorable -- 53
Bush can't say/haven't heard enough -- 17

Cheney favorable -- 18
Cheney unfavorable -- 46
Cheney can't say/haven't heard enough -- 35

What's weird to me is that, while Cheney's favorable no. is significantly lower than Bush's, Bush has the higher UNfavorable. What's up with that? I will enjoy using this fact in conversation with Republicans, though I don't quite get it.

It is hard to believe. Bush could molest children on live TV and he would still poll a 25% approval rating, cheered on by Rush and O'Reilly. So, he is down to nearly only his core base. And remember, of that 34%, half have never heard of the ports issue or anything else in the news.

I have a sister who adamantly supports *shit regardless what he lies about. I asked her how she could support someone who so obviously lies and she just said that she wasn't going to talk about it, that he was a man of god and no amount of "bad" news was going to change her mind. I've only seen her once in the last twenty years and probably never will again but I was amazed at the inconsistency. A man of god, can you believe that? Deranged confused and illogical but still supporting the fool. Stupid. Can't choose family I guess.

181. So was I. Did you see the question that asked "are you proud or ashamed
that bush is prez of the United States?" Of course, my answer was "ashamed." I've never seen such strong word options applied to him before. I'm guessing that there are people who've weighed in (I certainly did, myself) asking why - in the job performance category, with "excellent," "good," "fair," or "poor," there wasn't also an option for "abysmal." That may have motivated somebody there. Just a guess. But saying he's done a "poor" job doesn't even begin to describe how bad it is. "Poor" is damning with faint praise.

27. We've got to get the people of this country used to the
idea...and we need Dems to lead the way....Impeach or Resignation of the whole administration....make it part of every sound bite...get everybody thinking of the possibility of real change....starting with cleaning up the administration.

Every post I write from now on until it happens will be signed in the following way:

To BUSH: RESIGN or GET IMPEACHED--YOUR CHOICE!

I made a bunch of mailing labels that say "Impeach Cheney First" and I stick them everywhere I go to get people thinking about impeachment. Everytime I fill up with gas one goes on the gas pump, When I go shopping I stick one on the shopping cart handle. Car wash, laundromat, store shelves..... Endless list.:dem:

He previously has a 38 or 39 % floor that he couldn't fall below but this port foul-up was such a momumental political blunder that he stomped a whole in the floor. It turns out that at least some of the Bush-forever crowd were serious about the whole War on Terra and were willing to at least temporarily jump ship when it turned out that their Great Leader was clueless on the one issue that the Repubs beat the Dems in the polls.

In mass opinion situations it's my feeling that it can reach a critical mass such that those in the minority find that they are nearly alone, and suddenly they find themselves agreeing with the majority. At that point there cam be a 'free fall' until you really can find only single digits that approve.

It would be so satisfying to see that happen to this bunch of criminals.

Now that every right-wing talk radio wingnut except Limbaugh have come out against the port deal, it will be very hard for them to get in line with the new talking points that it's racist to oppose this innocuous deal. This would include Michael Savage, Neil Boortz, Sean Hannity at the least. This is a large combined market.

Oct. 1, 2005 - It had to happen. Just as a declining stock finds its “floor,” the point where the faith of hard-core supporters buttresses the price from falling any farther, President George W. Bush had to find his. And the new NEWSWEEK poll suggests he has.

That's LESS than what would be expected of any major-party candidate in a two-way presidential race just for showing up.

Mondale got about 38% in 1984.

Of course, given Bush's performance in office -- and the fact he did not come to the office honestly in 2000 -- it's still far more than he deserves. The only thing that prevents him from being the worst president ever is that he is not actually president.

you know you're assuming that many people voted for shrub...

they didn't. it's not a conspiracy. it's the truth!

thousands of votes were scared away by the short period allowed to vote and massive lines in urban areas, and the electronic vote theft like in Central Ohio where Bush was given thousands more votes than were cast, but, since it was easily caught, they had to admit an error. the other systems counted Kerry votes as Bush votes... nearly ALL the Bush stickers I've seen lately, (and I'm a non church attending Christian) PULL into churches along my drive with them, I SHIT you not... over 2/3 of them, it's weird and I laugh, but then I get ticked, because I know that's the base that's supporting the idiot, and they're just buying into his "MORAL authority given him by God"... yeah, right.

171. LATELT EGG ON THEIR FACE; THE "JOLKS" ON THEM
THE “JOLKS” ON THEM!

“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
couldn’t put Humpty together again!”

Bush’s approval rating falls to 34%, Karl Rove and all the King’s men are trying to pick up the pieces of the “shells” of the Bush Administrations blunders, but there are too many! This egghead of a leader and his cronies and all the king’s men are fighting fires that are breaking out everywhere. Public Awareness is catching up and recognizing false claims when they see and hear evidence to the contrary! The “JOLKS” on the NeoCons, George, and the Republicans as all their hens are coming home to roost!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11597322/

“Grisly attacks and other sectarian violence unleashed by last week's bombing of a Shiite shrine have killed more than 1,300 Iraqis, making the past few days the deadliest of the war outside of major U.S. offensives, according to Baghdad's main morgue. The toll was more than three times higher than the figure previously reported by the U.S. military and the news media”

Our soldiers’ death toll is just short of 2300 with 16653 maimed. Iraqis are dying in huge numbers everyday as Iraq teeters on the brink of civil war giving a lie to the loose lips of Bush, Cheney, and others of control or progress being made. Murtha is right; we need to get out now.

The Domestic Spy Issue and Bush’s/Republicans misuse of power won’t go away, and will be one more Achilles Heel in the 2006 and 2008 elections. All indications are the country trusts the Democrats more in running the government though they need to work on their message and need cooperation from the MSM in getting it out, which is a challenge! The accurate recording of votes moves to the first position. We need to keep an eye on today’s meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee meeting today on the NSA scandal and the results on the Patriot Act. The Bush Administration has been working overtime with favors and pressure on the Congressmen.

In the name of the “National Security” that Bush uses as his excuse to gain power, well-grounded fears and the many chinks in the Administration’s arguments about the deal ought to come back on them. The UAE Port debacle shows a huge majority of Americans are against the proposal, and are not fooled by Bush’s attempt to save face by putting pressure on the Dubai Company to ask for a delay! Postponing it for 45 days and hoping for short memories won’t work this time!

Torture and Rendition won’t go away, despite the US’s position, as the UN and most of the world disagree with Bush! Ditto on Global Warming!

Hillary is right on the money with her quote, "What they're hoping is that all of their missteps, which are now numbering in the hundreds, are going to somehow be overlooked because people, instead of focusing on the '06 election, will jump ahead and think about the next one," said Clinton, D-N.Y.

THE “JOLKS” ON THEM, Humpty Dumpty, George, the NeoCons, and the Republicans with their agenda of blunders are in big trouble! Lets hope all the king’s men and their rhetoric have taken a big fall from the wall, and won’t be able to be put together again in the coming elections!

104. here's more info...
They are buing out P&O North American Ports, which operats 21 ports in the US. Look at their own map of US operations right here: http://portal.pohub.com/portal/page?_pageid=169,1,169_82863&_dad=pogprtl&_schema=POGPRTL">P&O Map

"
We should also oppose the deal because former Treasury Secretary Snow and the Bush administration have made millions of dollars personally and billions of dollars for their respective companies in these sales.
http://www.buzzflash.com/analysis/06/02/ana06011.html
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022206Z.shtml

The individual named by the White House to run security for all major US ports under Maritime Administration, David Sanborn (pictured above), is the current number two man at Dubai Ports World and head of their European and Latin American operations. http://www.dpiterminals.com/fullnews.asp?NewsID=39

So when Neo-Cons defend Bush by saying that UAE won't be running security at the ports involved in the deal, they are deliberately ignoring the fact that DP World's number two is already in charge of all major US ports by appointment of Bush.

The New York Daily News pointed out Snow's connection to the sweetheart deal in pointing out that Snow headed, "the federal panel that signed off on the $6.8 billion sale of an English company to government-owned Dubai Ports World - giving it control of Manhattan's cruise ship terminal and Newark's container port.

"Snow was chairman of the CSX rail firm that sold its own international port operations to DP World for $1.15 billion in 2004, the year after Snow left for President Bush's cabinet."

The deal has already violated federal law in its failure to undergo a 45 day review procedure. That alone should bring criminal charges of espionage for those involved who profited from breaking federal law.
"

They're trying to only call it 6 because 6 are "bigger" than others. They'll also be getting 10 to 15 in Canada, not a peep out of Canada on this as far as I know.

Even on fighting terrorism, which has long been a strong suit for Mr. Bush, his ratings dropped lower than ever. Half of Americans say they disapprove of how he's handling the war on terror, while 43 percent approve.

His ratting for terrorism is substantially below 50%. This is the only reason he was competitive in the last election.

Breaking News
BUSH VOWS TO ALIENATE REMAINING POCKETS OF SUPPORT
President Determined to Drive Approval Rating Down to Zero

In a nationally televised address from the White House last night, President George W. Bush announced several bold new initiatives designed specifically to alienate his remaining pockets of support.

Acknowledging that his approval rating currently hovers around forty percent, the president told his national television audience, "I will not rest until I have driven that number down to zero."

Mr. Bush said that his recent decision to let a company based in the United Arab Emirates take control of key American ports was "an important step" in alienating the few Americans who still support him.

But the president said he began implementing his plan to drive away millions of supporters three years ago, with the invasion of Iraq: "Based on the approval numbers I now have, all I can say is, mission accomplished."

He added that naming Michael Brown to head up the Federal Emergency Management Agency was another crucial decision in his plan to alienate supporters: "When it comes to driving down your approval rating, Brownie did in fact do a heck of a job."

The president said that he was considering several new initiatives to alienate his remaining pockets of support, such as naming outgoing Harvard University President Larry Summers to a new Cabinet post, Secretary of Alienation.

"When it comes to alienating people, Larry Summers makes me look like a rank amateur," Mr. Bush said.

103. No..there wont be any terror alert right now!
That would backfire for them. The most scary thing about this whole port give away, it that the bush admin knew, in advance, what this would do...and they have made it most clear, that they no longer care. What they are saying is the "agenda" must move on...and that they do not give a rats ass about who they step on to do it...not even their own party....it is the agenda now..and that is all there is for them.

172. 34 percent seems too high.
Hello. I've been reading D.U. for a couple of months, and learning a lot. I doubt I will post very often, because I don't usually have much to add.
But this one I can chime in, because it's just baffling to me that *s approval rate is as high as it is---in the polls. Because I honestly don't know where they find all these people to say they approve. Where do they find them? Under rocks? I suppose I'm lucky to be surrounded by clear-thinking, aware, SANE, people who almost unanimously disapprove of *. Yes, I do still occasionally see "W" stickers, though they have been disappearing over the past year. Anybody who still supports * is quiet about it, similar to how a mother would be "supportive" of her convicted serial rapist son.
Now, I realize pollsters have to follow statistical guidelines when picking their sample, and such, but these results are making me a teensy skeptical. Just sayin'.

Especially considering 35% didn't give an answer or hadn't heard enough. Only 46% found Cheney to be unfavorable.

I would say that Cheney's true popularity is in the mid to high 20s though.

179. let's not get complacent
Its not my intention to rain on anyone's parade because I'm as happy as anyone to see these poll results. But its important for Democrats to respond to poll results like this by starting to work even harder to defeat repubs this fall. Sitting back and assuming the public is fed up with chimpy and his gang would be the worst thing to do. Presidential approval ratings can and do change rapidly. Reagan dropped into the mid 30's in 1983, but came back to the mid 60s within a couple of years. Similarly, Clinton bottomed out in 1993 in the mid-30s but rallied into the 70s before he was done. Even Ford, who dropped into the 30s after he pardoned Nixon came back to over 50 percent later in his presidency.

We need to keep up the pressure.

185. I don't think he cares: he's STILL the president. Impeachment not likely
For there to be a move to have him resign or be impeached would mean that a sufficient number of Republican congresscritters would have to rediscover their sense of honor, ethics, and concern for the fate of the nation. It would require the same from the MSM. Those were the conditions for Nixon's resignation.

This time around, for Bush that is, it hasn't happened.

Yet.

However, it is lovely to watch him free-fall without a parachute. He's like the man who jumped off a 120-story building. At the 30th floor a friend calls to him from a window "How are you doing?" and the guy answers "So far, so good! No worries!"

Rushbag was ballistic about how CBS 'fixed' the poll so that Bunnypants would look bad. He was also in disbelief that Cheney was 18% - he said that it was not mathematically possible.

You know when Rush Limbaugh has to spend his precious time not talking about Hillary but instead dissing a 34% approval of his fearless leader that the whole shithouse has gone up in flames for the repukes.
