Rice Says U.S. Position on Hamas Unchanged
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060126/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_mideast_8

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday the U.S. position on Hamas as a terrorist organization has not changed, despite the militant group's stunning victory in Palestinian elections.

"You cannot have one foot in politics and another in terror," Rice told the World Economic Conference in Davos, Switzerland via a telephone hookup to the State Department. "Our position on Hamas has therefore not changed."

She urged the international community to "speak clearly and truly to its principles" and urge Palestinians to renounce violence. Rice is due to meet in London on Monday with U.N., Russian and European leaders as the so-called "Quartet" of nations evaluates the results and tries to decide how to proceed with peacemaking efforts.

On Wednesday, the administration had said in advance of the balloting that it would not deal with Hamas.

so much for freedom on the march.

2. Because they make Chimpy look bad - voting without purple fingers
or no bid contracts Halliburton. Now, if they had done it the American way, where we spend billions to rebuild what we just blew up - then every pundit out there would be beating their chest.

Sorry Condi, the will of the people doesn't always go your way - if you wanted absolute loyalty to Party, you should have left well enough alone and followed Saddam's example of running a country.

4. one foot in politics and another in terror... uh
Black OPs?

It's only 'terror' when someone other than the US bombs something, it seems. When we illegally invade sovereign nations based on bogus intel and kill thousands of innocent civilians, it's a 'war', but if those people retaliate in any way, it's 'terror'.

My head spins just thinking about it. The absence of logic there is truly astounding.

6. So let me get this straight
Bush claimed he wants to spread democracy around the world, but when Palestine votes for Hamas in a democratic election, he's now not going to support them?

Color me surprised.

7. "You cannot have one foot in politics and another in terror."
I think this lying beeeotch should read some US History sometime - thenperhaps speak to Senator Kerry regarding just what went on in Iran and Nicaragua during Rompin' Ronnie Raygun's tenure in the White House.

Perhaps she might get a clue. I doubt it, however.

I have a friend courrently serving as a members of the Canadian Diplomatic Corps who is currently at the conference in Davos. She says it is frighening and hilarious at the same time whenever anyone from the US speaks. No one believes or trusts these assholes anymore - what in the heck can they possibly accomplish?

8. the position on elections has changed, however.
Not going to save the world every time, however. Seems that alienating people generally leads to hostile governments being elected, and rather than ceasing to stick thumbs in people's eyes they weill turn against governments popularly elected. After all, they don't care for them much here.
