Galloway wins libel award battle
The Daily Telegraph has lost its appeal against a £150,000 libel award to the Respect MP George Galloway.

The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against the libel awarded for an article claiming he had received money from Saddam Hussein's regime.

Mr Galloway was not at the Court of Appeal as he is on Big Brother.

The not-so-good news awaiting George, if he's evicted from Celebrity Big Brother tonight:

Galloway may face serious fraud office investigation

George Galloway faces the prospect of a criminal investigation into his activities by the serious fraud office, which has collected evidence relating to the oil-for-food corruption scandal in Iraq.

A four-strong SFO team returned from Washington with what a source close to US investigators calls "thousands of documents" about the scandal. The team is expected to produce, within the next four weeks, a report for the SFO director, Robert Wardle, as to whether a full criminal investigation should be mounted into UK individuals and companies involved, including Mr Galloway, the Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow.

Article continues
The SFO is following up two official reports published before Christmas in Washington, which detailed banking evidence that Mr Galloway's wife and his political campaign organisation both received large sums from Saddam Hussein, laundered through under-the-counter oil allocations.

Mr Galloway is unaware of the SFO's activities. He is in the Channel 4 TV show Celebrity Big Brother and cut off from outside contact. He is expected to be evicted from the Big Brother house tonight.

3. The Sun appears to have footage of him with Uday
It seems to be the normal "very pleased to see you again" stuff. I'm not sure if it proves much one way or the other. Given it's The Sun, I'm reluctant to give a link here. People can find it if they want.

6. This Big Brother thing helps me understand Galloway...
The man simply gravitates to people like Saddam. That's the fundamental issue underlying his political life. He just goes for bullies and strongmen and respects them more than wimpy democratic leaders who want to play warlord rather than be the real thing (not that they should, in a democracy).

So uh fine.

Unless these US Senate documents lead to REAL PROOF that Galloway took money from Saddam then they mean nothing. I'm especially mindful of the money that Abramoff "directed" to Democrats that never arrive - witness Conrad Burns' saying that ads against him are being paid for by Democrats who took (dirty) money from Abramoff's clients.

18. Regretfully I would have to agree
Love him or hate him, I don't think that he's done himself any favours by appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.

19. Seemed amazingly stupid to me.
Shameless media whoring, but OTOH he has had far more success in the public arena than I ever will, and with formidable enemies too.

20. Maybe he's your boy, he never was mine
Way too much swamp gas for way too many years for there not to be a broken sewer pipe down there somewhere. Something about serial litigators never sits well with me, either.

Meanwhile, I'd be careful about discussing pantloads after seeing this photo:

Reeeeeeaaaaaallllll careful.

21. He seems a fit adversary for the Bushites and Blairites to me.
But I would not say he is "my boy", he's not my type at all. You have to understand that I live in the USA, and for politicians here it borders on being de riguer to be clownish. Take a look at Hastert or Delay or Lott or Gingrich or Coleman sometime. Take a look at some of the TV evangelists. I mean, I could go on quite a while here. Once you let TV be the arbiter of what is seemly and what is not, it's all downhill.

14. Now we know who the NSA might have been bugging without a
warrant?

UK cops have been corralling Galloway into a corner for the last 15 years or so.

His anti-war stance is pure self publicism.

Galloway= Self Preservation Society No1 member/shareholder/director.

15. Yup...how the mighty have fallen...
Maybe the next time George decides to appear before Congress, he can bring Dennis Rodman with him to discuss dog behavioural techniques and evening wear ;-)

Adios George...and 'we did get fooled again', to borrow a quote from a song written by a famous child pornographer...
