Lobbyist ties could keep DeLay out of leadership
GOP aides say his links to the scandal-ridden Abramoff make him a liability

WASHINGTON - The burgeoning Jack Abramoff corruption scandal has made it all but certain that Rep. Tom DeLay will not return as House majority leader, aides to the Republican House leadership said Wednesday.

With DeLay having been closely associated with the fallen Washington power broker and former DeLay aides implicated in the scandal, Republicans are worried that DeLay could become the poster boy for the "culture of corruption" that Democrats cite as they rally for the 2006 elections, according to aides to several top GOP lawmakers.

"Under the current circumstances, with the (Texas) indictment and the now ballooning Abramoff scandal, there are very few members eager to see DeLay back in the leadership post," said a top aide to a House GOP leader.

The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because the leadership has yet to decide how or when to broach the matter of electing a permanent leader.

Gingrich to House GOP: Replace DeLay
Cox News Service
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 01.05.2006

WASHINGTON — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called on Republicans Wednesday to permanently replace Tom DeLay in the House leadership and to pass laws and new rules to prevent lobbying scandals.

"You don't have to render any judgment on Congressman DeLay to conclude that over the next six or eight months, he is going to be very busy and that it's important for the House Republican Party to have an effective majority leader," Gingrich told reporters after a luncheon speech to the Rotary Club in Washington.

Under House Republican rules, DeLay was forced to relinquish his post as majority leader after a Texas grand jury indicted him in September on charges of conspiracy to violate Texas election law and laundering campaign money.

10. Whyinhell is that leech
still hanging around? He represents the very worst about this whole mess. I have an enormous amount of trouble imagining why he, Buchannon and that whole lumpy bunch of failed political hangers-on are allowed to be sucked up to and to be the opinion makers of the neofascist media.
They make me retch!

13. They've probably been lying low, hoping we'd forget what monsters
they are when they attempt to creep back into their old positions. He and Livingston and Hyde and Burton, etc., etc. were ones who were notorious for rip-roaring lechery LONG before they all stood and pointed their sanctimonious fingers at the last cleanly elected President, Bill Clinton.

11. He can become leader again because-
He is the very epitome of the war all the rest of those vile bast**** want to be. They really think that they are doing good! As warped as it seems, most villains don't really see themselves as the bad guys-they see themselves as heroes.

to stop them. Either America is a land of cowards and greed filled opportunists or it is a land filled of Americans who are grateful for what they have been given and are willing to fight for it, for our environment and our future. Time will tell.

Time will show what we are made of by how much we protect what we have been given, which many people died for. Will we reach out to expand our minds and limits or will we resort to narrow minded, self defeating fascism, which destroys everyone in the equation?

Again, it depends on the citizens.

14. I say let him be majority leader again -- for ALL the above reasons
And after the November elections, let him be MINORITY leader, too.

If there ever was a poster boy for today's nutjob rightwing, he's it. Put him back in, guys! Show your true colors! Hell, parade the Human Canker Sore across the country, campaigning for ALL rebubbalican candidates!

(IOW, if they want to shoot themselves in the foot, I'M not going to be the one trying to grab the gun away.)
