Midwest Air plane lands safely in Boston

Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:06 PM ET

BOSTON (Reuters) - A Midwest Airlines passenger aircraft landed safely at Boston's Logan Airport on Tuesday after circling the airport for over an hour to dump fuel following a problem with its landing gear shortly after takeoff.

Television images showed that Midwest Flight 210 from Boston to Milwaukee had landed safely shortly before 10 p.m. EST (0300 GMT). Sparks flew from the right main landing gear as the aircraft's wheels made contact with the runway.

Authorities said there were about 90 passengers and crew on board the aircraft. Phil Orlandella, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority said there had been a possible problem with the Boeing 717's right landing gear.

He said it had been expected to make a safe landing. "This sounds precautionary," the spokesman said.

2. Nope airlines at fault
This kind of stuff will happen alot more if they keep cutting cost by laying off, firing, and bullying A&P Mechanics. With less of a staff they'll push the remaining A&P's for more production and quality of work will go down big time. Then they'll ship some of the work to 2nd party companies who pay as much as Someone working retail would receive. The people working those jobs are either 3nd rate mechanics or former airline mechanics making a 1/5 of their former pay. I went to school to be a A&P Mechanic, I finish 3 semesters of my associates and I transferred to another college for a different major, I didn't want to be making that kind of low pay with that kind of resposibility on my shoulders. A&P Mechanics are the most valuable workers for the airlines (Even above the Pilots) I think their right up there next to doctors on responsibility. If you don't strive for perfection on the job, something bad is going to happen and you can't go fixing it in the midddle of it happening in the air. So the pay the airlines offer these Mechanics is a joke 95% of the time, and if they think they can pay $7 Hr, their going to get alot of conditions like this happening often, along with this a whole lot good mechanics are going be like forget this and find another line of work.

I'm just wondering if this sort of thing is fairly normal, it just that CNN got such great Ratings the night the JetBlue jet landed that CNN and the cable news channels are just covering these more?
