SACRAMENTO (AP) - Two former students of a Sutter County alternative school were sentenced to nine months in federal prison Thursday for intimidating black students so they would not attend school.
Jared Oreste Giampaoli, 20, and Steven Foster Little, 19, both of Sutter, used threats of force to interfere with the black students' civil rights, U.S. Magistrate Judge Peter A. Nowinski found in imposing the sentence.
The men and their associates, who were not charged, used racial epithets and challenged black students to fights in August and September 2004, causing two black students to leave the Butte View Continuation High School. The school, which had about 30 students, teaches students who don't have enough credits to graduate from a standard high school.
