Indianapolis gay rights plan stands chance of passing this time
Supporters of a proposal banning discrimination against gays in Indianapolis are looking for the last few votes needed for passage after a City-County Council committee endorsed the measure Tuesday night.

.......

A similar proposal failed 18-11 in April, but supporters have persuaded at least four members to consider changing their votes.

.......

Current laws protect all workers from discrimination based on race, religion, age and several other factors. The anti-discrimination ordinance would protect people from being fired or denied housing because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

.......

Pete Setcoski, who said he was a business owner and pastor from Speedway, said he didn't think the law was necessary because gays don't need extra protection.

"The law protects all people from physical abuse," he said. "This is a law about condoning homosexuality, which God said is a sin."
