Wis. Governor Vetoes Malpractice Suit Bill
MADISON, Wis. - Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed legislation that would have capped the amount of money medical malpractice victims could win in court for their pain and suffering, an issue that has been a political flash point in states across the country.

Republican lawmakers drafted the measure to limit non-economic damages to $450,000 for adults and $550,000 for minors after the state Supreme Court struck down Wisconsin's previous cap as unconstitutional.

The court said then that there was no rational basis for the limit, and Doyle, a Democrat, said in announcing his veto Friday that the court likely would strike down the proposed caps for the same reason.

"Approving a law that would quickly be overturned doesn't do anyone any good," Doyle said in a written statement.

1. Wow, these republicans have no concept other than greed
Limiting awards exacerbates the injury. What's a leg worth? an arm?
Eye? Brian damage? and a litany of other problems. The high cost of
follow-up care will deplete that amount plus the lawyer gets 33%-40%
of that.
When jury awards are excessive for moderate pain and suffering the judge can reduce it. We the people have been deciding the amount for
the injury one can receive. Incompetent doctors and management who allow them to operate should be hit with punitive damages. A high 5
to the Governor, maybe next Nov. some of these greedy people will be ousted in a sweeping major victory by the Democratic Party across the country. That's if the Bush Crime Family doesn't attack America again!

3. They have no respect for the law- or for juries
No one just gives away money- and malpractice cases are difficult and expensive to take to trial.

Bottom line is that the far right simply doesn't want any accountability on any level- for themselves or for their patrons.

9. He Saved Our Schools Too . . We Have To Fight HARD To Keep Him!
As a matter of fact, I'm having a meeting of the Shawano County Dempcratic Party at my house this Thursday (Dec. 8). Guest Speaker will be state Senator Roger Breske. If you live near me (Wausau, Wi.), c'mon over! I'm sure a topic will be what we can do to get back the state legislature and keep Governor Doyle.

12. Repug legislature to keep hammering away
Unfortunately, Wisconsin's Republican controlled legislature keeps hammering away at the "God, gays, and guns" issues that they think will get them re-elected:

- Referendum question regarding proposed anti-gay marriage amendment on Spring '06 ballot

- Concealed weapons carry bill

- Required voter ID

And so on. When did the home of Fighting Bob LaFollette, champion of the progressive movement, become Alabama North?
