Democrats Urge Congress to Focus on Energy (radio address)
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The federal government needs to create a comprehensive energy policy to address rising costs across the country, Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington said Saturday in the Democratic Party's weekly radio address.

Gregoire cited actions taken by her state and Democratic governors in New Mexico and Pennsylvania to help people dealing with the record cost of heating their homes.
....
"Sadly, we simply can't rely on the Republican-controlled Congress to create a national energy policy that works," she said.

Gregoire also addressed a home-state issue, criticizing President Bush and Congress for recent budget cuts for a waste treatment plant at the Hanford nuclear reservation, one of the most contaminated nuclear sites in the nation.

1. The era of cheap energy is OVER!!
Although this nation lacks a comprehensive energy policy that will take us to a post-hydrocarbon society, I believe its wrong to attempt to state we can go back to the era of cheap oil and gas..

2. Democrats call for policy to address high fuel costs
OLYMPIA, Washington (AP) -- The federal government needs to create a comprehensive energy policy to address rising costs across the country, Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington said Saturday in the Democratic Party's weekly radio address.

Gregoire cited actions taken by her state and Democratic governors in New Mexico and Pennsylvania to help people dealing with the record cost of heating their homes.

"We're controlling rising prices and reducing our use of foreign oil by embracing alternative energy sources," she said.

But to keep pace with the energy demand, she said a comprehensive policy, with commitments from the states and federal government, is essential.

3. Well since we have given up on the rest of our issues
We could always jump on the Drill like mad in ANWR bandwagon.

After all, that and Social Security are the only two issues we haven't given up on.

4. Where are these radio addresses played live?
And when? I know Saturday morning, but I don't know where to go or when, on the radio, to hear them.

5. Here in South California the local CBS radio station. . .
plays both the weekly presidential address and the opposing party's commentary on Saturday mornings at 7 am and 8 am. Can't say if either is live though I suspect both are recorded. If you have a CBS affiliate in your area, it may play at a corresponding time in your time zone.

6. Gregoire is today the only reason I am proud to be a Washingtonian.
Too bad her election was so close (and so besmirched by recounts): another of the dire consequences of the huge (and worsening) schism between the pro-gun Democratic electorate and the hysterically, fanatically anti-gun state Democratic leadership -- Murray, Cantwell, Dicks, McDermott, Inslee, Larsen, Baird etc.

Cantwell, in some instances a brilliant Senator, is nevertheless like Murray a DLC tool who favors outsourcing and the ongoing subjugation of the American workforce. Cantwell will almost certainly lose to a Republican next year because of the combination of her anti-gun zealotry and her treacherously anti-working-class, spit-in-our-face pro-Bush vote for CAFTA: which, once again, has rural and blue-collar Washingtonians saying, "the only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is the Republicans will let us keep our guns."

Gregoire on the other hand let it be known within the party she would would veto any anti-gun extremism emanating from the legislature (as always, the urban Puget Sound delegation wants to impose harshly prohibitive New-York-City style gun controls on an essentially-rural state despite the fact the last such effort, in 1994, cost the Democrats control of the legislature for a full decade).

Best of all, Gregoire demonstrates a strong commitment to preserving social services and thereby protecting the poor, the disabled and the elderly -- the fierceness of her stance suggesting New Deal core values far too many of today's Democrats (including ALL the DINOs who voted for CAFTA) not only clearly lack but hold in contempt. Gregoire is thus precisely the kind of Democrat we need more of if we are to ever rescue America from the dire threat it now faces.

9. What Chavez is doing is beyond wonderful: finally providing America...
with not only desperately needed affordable fuel but undeniable proof of the superiority of socialism. Now if the Chinese would only employ the same strategy...
