2. Because Bush can't open a locked door!
No one wants us in Iraq, particularly the Iraqis. I don't know why so many fine young men and women have to die or suffer horrible wounds just because the Bush dictatorship and its lapdogs in Congress are unwilling to admit the war is lost.

Car bomb near Baghdad kills 19: doctors
Thu Nov 24, 2005 4:29 AM ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A car bomb exploded near Iraqi police outside a hospital in a town south of Baghdad on Thursday, killing 19 people and wounding dozens, doctors at the local hospital and witnesses said.

The explosives-packed car was parked in front of Mahmoudiya's General Hospital and blew up as two patrols of Iraqi police pulled up outside, witnesses said.

Doctors at the hospital said 34 people were also wounded in the blast. It was not clear if it was a suicide car bomb attack.

Earlier, Interior Ministry sources said seven people had been killed and at least 10 wounded.

The bombing is the latest in an apparently stepped up campaign of militant violence over the past week and in the run-up to parliamentary elections set for December 15.

Since last Friday, nearly 200 people have been killed in a series of suicide bombings and car bomb blasts, including 77 killed when bombers strapped with explosives blew themselves up inside two Shi'ite mosques in the northern town of Khanaqin.

10. These attacks are becoming more frequent and deadly.
We need to get out of that country immediately. The bloodshed will never end as long as we occupy their land, resources, etc. My heart aches for the innocent lives affected by this illegal war. We need to protect our troops by getting them the hell out of Iraq and providing them with the best medical care possible.

...The United States hopes that a big Sunni turnout next month will produce a broad-based government that can win the minority's trust, helping to take the steam out of the Sunni-led insurgency and hasten the day when American and other foreign troops can go home."

Sad to say, there are so many car bomb attacks, that I've nearly stopped reading about them. I doubt that the people responsible for this attack will have any trust for the outcome of an election that the US can take credit for. They don't even want our toys for their children.

11. Update: Iraqis blame US troops for the bombing
Suicide bomb kills 48 in Iraq as US troops celebrate Thanksgiving
By Kim Sengupta in Baghdad
Published: 25 November 2005

Suicide bombers killed 48 people in Iraq yesterday, one of the attacks taking place outside a hospital as US troops arrived with Thanksgiving Day presents for young patients.

The explosion at the General Hospital at Mahmoudiyah in the so-called "triangle of death" killed 34 and injured 39 others. Some members of bereaved families and local people blamed the Americans for attracting the lethal attention of insurgents with their visit.

Three children, four women, six members of the medical staff and seven policemen were among those who died.

Hoda Ali Mahmoud, 30, was leaving the hospital with her 18-month-old son when the suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives. "I was carrying my little boy in my arms. The glass just flew at us when it happened and it hit him on the face," she said. "I was knocked down. When I got up he was already dead. I had taken him to the hospital because he had a bad cold."

Mohammed Rashid's 18-year-old brother, Yasin, suffered severe chest injuries. "Why did the Americans come here?" he shouted. "They must have known they would bring the killers with them."

Four Americans were hurt in the bombing but their injuries were described as "not life-threatening". US officials said that as well as taking presents, the soldiers had gone to the hospital to see how facilities could be improved. A separate suicide bombing at a market in Hillah killed 14 people.

12. 30 die in bomb attack on Iraq hospital
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,7374-1889276,00.html

A suicide car bomber today killed 30 people outside a hospital in central Iraq, including four police guards, three women and two children.

Four US soldiers who had been handing out toys to children outside the hospital in Mahmoudiya, about 30 km (20 miles) south of Baghdad, were injured in the blast. Dr. Dawoud al-Taie, the director of the Mahmoudiyah hospital, said that 35 other people were also wounded.

A US military statement said: "Task Force Baghdad civil affairs soldiers were at the hospital conducting an assessment for upgrades to the facility when the car bomb detonated. Task Force Baghdad officials said the target appears to have been the hospital, but the terrorist was unable to penetrate the security perimeter before detonating."

However an Iraqi army spokesman said that the bomber was targeting US military vehicles parked near the hospital.

14. You know, it makes me absolutely furious when I read stories
about our soldiers handing out toys and candies to children. I know it's meant as a PR gesture, but the practical result of it is that these children are made into targets and often end up getting blown up.

Why can't our military just leave some of the PR stunts and try to do what's really in the best interests of the Iraqi people? Please stop painting targets on the backs of children.

Is it wrong of me to feel this way?
