Saudis prepare to lead al-Qaeda in Iraq
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 04:24 PM by ECH1969
Saudi nationals appear to be taking over the Al Qaida network in Iraq.

U.S. officials said military intelligence has detected the flow of Saudi financing and senior operatives to Al Qaida in the Al Anbar province. They said Saudis have financed leading Al Qaida operatives in the Faluja area.

"It seems that senior Al Qaida operatives in Saudi Arabia have moved their operations to Iraq, where they are well-financed by prominent Saudis who don't want to see a democratic Iraq," an official said.

Saudi nationals have been smuggling Al Qaida recruits into Iraq for attacks on U.S. and Iraqi forces, officials said. They said Iraqi and U.S. units have increased their search for Saudi operatives and bolstered security along the southern Iraqi border.

2. I thought the Saudis were working with us on the war on terror?
You mean they might actually want instability in the region? I wonder how that instability might impact the price of oil - any takers?

14. 15 of the 19 9/11 attackers held Saudi passports...
Not a one held an Iraqi passport, however, we bombed the hell out of Iraq and murdered over 100,000 of its citizens.

Osama bin Laden is a member of the Saudi Royal Family, and Bush hasn't caught him yet.

In Michael Moore's "F 9/11," Secret Service police are videotaped stopping and questioning Moore and his videocameraman, standing across the street from the Saudi embassy. That's all they were doing: standing across the street. Someone in the White House must have asked the SS to investigate after someone in the Saudi embassy tipped off the White House. So now the US Secret Service is charged with the responsibility of protecting the US president, vice-president, and Saudi Embassy.

The Bush Family and the Saudi Family have been business partners for years, with the Saudis stepping in to bail out at least one of Bush Jr's failed business ventures...

I don't see why America can't see this cozy relationship: the Saudis are terrorists and have been known to finance terrorism. They are also Bush's friends.

9/11 was a huge boost to Jr's' poll numbers (they were in the 49% approval range just before the attacks). Did I mention that 75% of the attackers held Saudi passports? The Saudis are the best friends Bush has ever had...

Honorable mention, Syria.

Saudi is exempt because they're old Bush family buds. Remember the nickname for the prince - 'Bandar Bush.'

4. The foreign fighters. Always the foreign fighters.
The U.S. plays this angle every couple of weeks.

This article from September makes an interesting read:

"Al-Qaeda in Iraq" makes the biggest noise, and the
Saudi fighters carry a certain mystiqe, but they
are not the main insurgency in Iraq.

6. Saudi "nationals" have always funded al-Qaida, no?
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 05:21 PM by pinto
Rodan's claim that they are "taking over" operations in Iraq strains even blogosphere credulity.

The ME Newsline editorial agenda seems to rely on a sensationalism of Middle East politics and to feed on the "edge" that revolving threats - presented in black and white absolutes - gives to their bread 'n butter reporting - the weapons industry.

Take a look, folks, at their "about us" page...I'd read them with a jaundiced eye.

11. So we're going to attack Syria and Iran instead.
Hell, we might as well invade Trinidad and Tobago. I think it would have a better effect.

15. Considering 15 of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis this
might have been a good idea--both justifiable and profitable--if we had done it 4 years ago. Instaad we had to take over a few innocent countries first.

16. patience
PNAC will get to Saudi Arabia in good time,

a conquered Iraq, a castrated Syria and an isolated Iran will make it much easier to pressure and the Saudi's and secure their last few remaining drops of oil.

then again, if you believe that it is all about oil, not terrosism, and if you are a Peak Oiler and and believe that the Saudi estimates are wildly over stated, then of course PNAC isn't bothering with Saudi Arabia. There is more oil in Iraq and Iran, when Saudi Arabia's oil wealth is depleted then they will not have the $$$ to fund terrorism. problem solved.
