Republicans differ on Bush response to CIA leak inquiry

Republicans made fresh comments on the CIA leak scandal on Sunday morning talk shows, offering conflicting opinions on whether Bush should clean house, RAW STORY can reveal.

Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), seen by many as a 2008 presidential contender, said Bush should make changes in wake of the indictment of a top Cheney aide. Hagel has been critical of how the Bush Administration has handled Iraq, making comparisons to Vietnam.

When asked how Bush should deal with the CIA leak case on ABC's "This Week," Hagel said, "If I was the president, I think I'd want to enlarge and widen that group, and start making some serious review and inventory of what has happened in the last five years that's gotten him into so much trouble."

...

Newt Gingrich, who has made a bi-partisan push with Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) on medical records and national security issues, told "This Week" that Republicans may be in "big trouble."

1. It was interesting to listen to Newt...
He didn't tout the usual Republican talking points--the ones currently being spewed by Limbaugh, etc.

Newt said that if serious, dramatic changes weren't made by the State of the Union, then the Republicans were in serious, irreversible trouble.

I'm paraphrasing, but he suggested major changes in personnel and policy.

Personally, I'd rather see the pResident dig his heels in, stay on his current course to the bowels of hell--and go down in flames. I'd like to see him justify the past year at the State of the Union speech. Wouldn't that be a treat? Rove will be gone by then, and probably other damaging tangents to the leak will be revealed.

I can't wait.

2. Raw Story CAN REVEAL
what people said AFTER ALL THE TALK SHOWS ON SUNDAY?

Yeah, that's a LATE breaking story - WAY Late, AFTER everyone could have seen it on their own TVs..

THis is FRESH reporting, THIS is taking back the Media by Liberals, by WATCHING the SUNDAY NEWS SHOWS?

Why don't they just read us the AP WIRE and call that THEIR NEWS?

C'Mon..

3. WTF?
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 02:41 PM by Lochloosa
Some of us could not watch the shows this morning. It reads like just a straight ahead report of what was said. Not REVEALING anything.

Edit: just to recommend.

Reading the Raw Story reporting of what was said, by whom, is worth my time.

4. We Need To Go After Voting Reform... BIGTIME!
Let them unravel. In the meantime, we need to keep pressing the issues. It's a win-win for us.
