US holds four China spy suspects

FBI agents in Los Angeles have arrested four people for allegedly trying to smuggle US military secrets to China.

An FBI affidavit said they were charged with theft of government property, conspiracy and transportation of stolen goods, Reuters news agency reported.

The affidavit said one suspect worked for a California defence contractor.

Those arrested - two married couples - are all ethnic Chinese. Two of them are naturalised US citizens, while the other two are legal US residents.

1. If this is true (I sometimes have a hard time believing the FBI)...
it makes you wonder how Mr. Chi got to be the lead engineer on that project, with one of our defense contractors. I would think he would have been throughly investigated along with his wife, friends and relatives.

4. The Pentagon can't find it's own butt with both hands and a map.
In most cases, they have no idea at all who is and who is not a risk. And the record shows that. It's just one stupid spy scandal after another, and meanwhile very few "secrets" that are worth protecting in the first place are guarded effectively.

3. Interesting pre-cursor to UK state visit by Chinese Pres next week.
No details yet whether the US bust was of Taiwanese interests of those relating to Beijing.

8. It's organised crime in Taiwan with its business links to Opus Dei
members in Europe and Latin America that worries me most.

Their agenda and modus operandi is not dissimilar to that of the Spanish Inquisition days of the Holy Roman Empire.

9. This should be available at Wal-Mart by Christmas, then.
"It said Mr Chi was a lead engineer on a research project that involves Quiet Electric Drive technology for US Navy ships."
