U.S. military 'doing everything' it can to seek out bin Laden

KABUL, Afghanistan -- A military spokesman in Afghanistan said the U.S. is doing everything it can to find Osama bin Laden.

Colonel James Yonts said the U.S. is working with neighboring countries such as Pakistan in the hunt. But he said there's no way to know when bin Laden will be captured.

Officials have long suspected bin Laden is hiding in remote mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Yonts said the U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces have killed a suspected Taliban commander responsible for guerrilla-style assaults. He said 15 other rebels were wounded but there were no Afghan or coalition casualties.

1. The sad thing is ...
We've given him so much breathing room in Afghanistan by sending our troops to Iraq, he's had ample opportunity to quietly slip away. I would wager that, if he's alive, he's probably not anywhere near there now.

Of all the things bushitg would want this would not be one of them. But of course, the media wouldn't print a thing bin Missing had to say about how the bushites planned it all.

10. DISCONNECT?
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 12:03 PM by pepperbear
Can someone answer this, PLEASE?

Why is the question "Where's Osama?" such an anathema to the neo cons? I am going to break it down in easy to read language so a 3 y.o. (or a freep) can understand it, because I really can't understand the disconnect:

1. We were told The guy ordered the attacks on 9/11 (I remember we had his picture up on every screen within an hour as the perp, so we kind of, uh, knew something was up)
2. We blasted Afghanistan (which made sense since we had intelligence to suggest OBL was hiding out) BUT we left without catching him, basking in the safe assumption that we had rescued Afghanistan from the evil clutches of the Taliban and therefore we would see no more terrorism coming from that country. We then...
3. Immediately turned our attention to Iraq, siting stockpiled WMDs as a reason for a pre-emptive strike. To play Devil's Advocate (and to couch the advocacy in GOP rhetoric), we also heard variations of "Hussein= bad, evil, enemy of freedom, etc..." ALL OF WHICH MIGHT BE TRUE but...
4. It doesn't remove the fact that we hadn't finished what we started in Afghanistan before we lost interest which leads me and anyone else with any kind of critical evaluation process that....
5. The Iraq strategy was faulty and it was a foregone conclusion that we were going to engage them, the attacks on 9/11 were really timed badly for the administration as they had other plans and, well, there is probably more than meets the eye here, to put it mildly.

I conclude that ignoring OBL for this long ALONE should have many cons asking for Bush's head. Instead, dropping this question in a thread is tanatamount to trolling, but the freeps never have an answer.

I am reminded of a scene from the flick Beverly Hills Cop 2 (not a great work of art, but it serves my purpose to reference it). In it, Gilbert Godfried is trying to get out of his unpaid parking tickets by bribing Eddie Murphy and he holds his hands up and says (paraphrased):

"what can I put in this hand that will make you forget about what I have in the other?"

This is one of the most calculated bait and switches I have ever seen the Gov't pull.

13. I would also offer
that my worst fears might be realized: that the real reason bush won again in 2004 is exactly what they said it was: because the GOP and their base, the "values voters" wanted to push their socially conservative agenda on the rest of us, and the war wasn't even a factor in making this heinous decision.

16. This mid-level spokesman might believe it, but it is a LIE
Why would the Busheviks want to capture their own most-useful employee?

Osama Bin Goldstein, just another side of the same coin that is the Imperial Bush family.

18. They probably are doing "everything they can"...
but when fearless leader* takes away troops to fight in his vaniety war in Iraq, the term "everything" takes on a whole different meaning.

I'm doing "everything I can" to become a doctor, except go to school for it.

colossal failure*.
