US Military Assessment Team Going to Bolivia
<clips>

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military is sending a small team of security specialists to the American Embassy in Bolivia to assess the situation amid civil unrest in that South American nation, the military's Southern Command said on Friday.

"We are sending a situational assessment team of fewer than a half dozen" people to the capital of La Paz, Air Force Capt. Tom Crosson told Reuters via telephone from the command's headquarters in Miami. "They are expected to arrive within a matter of days."

The decision comes amid political upheaval in South America's poorest country. Bolivia's government coalition fell apart on Friday after a main ally of President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada withdrew his support, echoing demands from protesters for the unpopular leader to step down.

1. This is bull, but I don't understand what's really going on with it
According to the non-CNN reports of what's been going on in Bolivia over the last few weeks, the US already has a host of military advisors down there working with the Bolivian military (and the soon-to-be-ex president).

Given that, the US military should have a really good idea of what's going on already.

So what's with these guys? Or perhaps that's even too much of an assumption. "What's the purpose of this cover story?" would probably be a better question.
