Aide of Iraqi deputy PM (chalabi) killed in Baghdad

An aide to Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Chalabi was killed by gunmen on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.

Haidar Mohammed Ali al-Dujaili, the head of Public Affairs Department of the Iraqi National Congress, was killed by gunmen at his home in southeastern Baghdad at around 5:00 a.m. (0100 GMT), the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi National Congress is a political party led by Chalabi. Gunmen opened fire at a convoy of Chalabi's officials south of the capital four days ago, killing one of his bodyguards.

Chalabi, once a Pentagon ally, who fell out with Washington later, came back to Iraq in April last year. He was once considered a potential Iraqi leader after the toppling of Saddam Hussein.

1. Maybe Judith Miller would like to be 'embedded' in Chalabi's entourage?
After all, she'd be coming to the assistance of an old pal, right?

2. Chalabi needs to stand trial. If he's "offed" the whole story will never

come out. The unfortunate question is, though: Who will bring him to trial and who will be the witnesses and what will be the loyalties of the Judge who tries the case.

I wonder if it's the "insurgents" who are seeming to target him, or those who want to go after him to cover up his crimes and make him an object of sympathy before the whole mess starts to unravel.

Our life in the spy novel continues. Every day is a page turner. :-(
