Iraq constitution on track, but not end to violence
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - In a month, Iraq should have a constitution, meeting a deadline set as part of a U.S.-backed timetable for its transition from occupation to independence.

Three months ago, after it had taken 12 weeks just to form a government, many doubted the Aug. 15 target for the draft constitution could be met; long, bitter wrangling had dented hopes raised by an election held, on schedule, on Jan. 30.

Now, few doubt that some form of draft constitution will appear more or less on time -- even though the parliamentary committee working on it has not, as it once suggested, unveiled a preliminary text by July 15.

Washington and London are keen for domestic reasons to start pulling out troops next year. They face a dilemma of appeasing Sunnis demanding an end to occupation while refusing to yield to violence: "We're telling them, the quicker they end the insurgency, the quicker we're out of here," a diplomat said.

1. I read the whole document - but - -
.
.
.

The telling phrase is "the quicker they end the insurgency, the quicker we're out of here"

right -

The US has troops in over a hundred countries, and combined - they do not have the oil resources that Iraq has to keep the USA's murderous war machine going - -

feckadee - the US still has it's fingers in the pie in Japan, after doing major "collateral damage" - (translate loosely as mass murder) in Hiroshima and Nagasaki -

USA is #1 in genocide as far as I'm concerned, from their Agent Orange to their Depleted Uranium - and I'm getting tired of the citizens saying "well we didn't know!!"

well this dumm canuk 500 miles north of the border (not far enuf in my mind) knows - I think it's up to te voters/citizens to pay attention to what their government is doing, and take action

This is why I like DU - most share my views, but for the country to be safe DU needs about 50 million more members - -

THEN the USA would surely be the beacon of freedom and decency - not it's present image of mass murders -

sorry guys, but Americans that take no responsibility for Bush and his voter's madness will suffer for his carnage - - and the rest of the USA along with it

and sadly, as much as I liked the US in my visits, and had planned to retire there( SanDee Ca where I lived fora bit in 79), I have no intention of crossing or even coming near the border

Somehow I think us Canuks may have bigger cajones than the Murikkan "warriors"

I betcha it wasn't that easy for our Chretien to basically tell Boosh to fuck off regarding the invasion of Iraq - so even if he's totally guilty of that scandal thing they are trying to pin on him - in my mind, when it came to his MOST important decision - he did it right

For that one decision alone, I will forever consider myself, and the rest of Canada, grateful, and in his debt -

Sorry _ can't think of one decision the Boy King has made that I can give him one ounce of respect for - or his voters

I don't believe the US will leave Iraq, no matter what -

Heck, they've been breaking their treaties/promises since the 1500's.

At least in that respect they are consistent . .

(sigh)
