Taliban kill eight policemen in Afghan attack

KABUL, Oct 12 (Reuters) - A large force of Afghan Taliban guerrillas killed eight police officers and wounded two in a night attack on a district office in the volatile southern province of Zabul early on Sunday, a local official said.

The latest attack by a resurgent guerrilla movement occurred in Zabul's Arghandab district shortly before 2 a.m. (2130 GMT), district officer Haji Qudratullah told Reuters.

He said up to 100 Taliban fighters were involved. They burned down the district office and destroyed four vehicles before government forces reoccupied the area after dawn.
