Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) optimistic on Iraqi efforts ('third rate reporters')
Frelinghuysen joined a bi-partisan group of 10 Republican and seven Democratic legislators for a five-day fact-finding trip to Iraq, returning on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

...

He said in an interview on Friday, Oct. 3, that soldiers he spoke with were "very positive" about their work but were unhappy with the American press coverage.

...
The Congressman blamed what he called unbalanced news reporting on "third rate reporters."

"After the war was over, the Dan Rathers of the world and others who were imbedded in the front, returned home," Frelinghuysen said. "Now they have third rate reporters there."

Bush's PR counterattack includes a healthy dose of media-bashing, which is apparently being treated with skepticism by much of the media. It was sadly amusing to watch Bremer tout the "success" of the electricity restoration on the same day a police station was blown up and a Spanish intelligence agent was gunned down in his underpants.

2. As someone from his district, I can't stand this guy
He came and talked to my HS history class (like 4 years ago)...some wonderful snippets...

"I'm a Republican because my parents were."

"I'm a politician because I figured I'd be good at it."

The kicker...
" I believe marriage is a holy bond between a man & a woman, but I'm aware there are homosexuals living under that condition."

On the last one, I leaned over to my really, really flaming friend and said, "I saw this shirt that said everytime a Republican dies, a queer angel gets their wings." And the Asst. principal was sitting behind us. She almost went into uncontrollable hysterical laughter. It was great.

By HAMZA HENDAWI, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide car bomber crashed a white Oldsmobile into a police station in Iraq's largest Shiite Muslim enclave Thursday, killing himself, nine others and wounding as many as 45. Earlier, gunmen — one dressed as a Muslim cleric — shot and killed a Spanish military attache.

Even a more stable country would be flummoxed by these daily attacks. This is the new WH campaign- lie harder?
