Farmers Protesting in Paraguay
Asuncion, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of farmers marched in Asuncion and other Paraguayan cities on Monday to demonstrate against the government decision to privatize public firms, repression of protests and the lack of a coherent agrarian reform.

Teachers´ leader Gabriel Espinola said they would remain at the Asuncion square until next Thursday, when the Chamber of Deputies is slated to debate the controversial Privatization Law.

Espinola asserted thousands of farmers would peacefully occupy the public entities to prevent the Paraguayan administration from selling them.

The privatization proposal, requested by the International Monetary Fund, will end any possibilities for development for the three million poor, as private companies only seek profits and ignore solidarity and cooperation with the meek, denounced the union leader. <snip>
