Defectors say China running 1,000 spies in Canada
Defectors say China running 1,000 spies in Canada
Last Updated Wed, 15 Jun 2005 19:14:03 EDT

Two Chinese defectors say the Chinese government has a network of more than 1,000 spies and informants in Canada.

The two men were diplomats in Australia, where they are now seeking political asylum. They say Australia and other countries such as the United States have Chinese spy networks operating inside them too.

The defectors say the spies and informants have orders to disrupt the Falun Gong movement, which China calls "a dangerous cult," and to steal commercial and scientific secrets.

Chen Yongleen, the first secretary of the Chinese consulate in Sydney, defected two weeks ago. He was followed a short time later by How Fungjing, a low ranking Chinese intelligence officer.

2. They must be
We're certainly open about everything else. Nothing to spy on.

Never met a Falun Gong member in my life. They are certainly no large or organized group. :D

Kissinger: In His Own Words :.

"Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government."

-- Henry Kissinger speaking at Evian, France, May 21, 1992 Bilderburgers meeting. Unbeknownst to Kissinger, his speech was taped by a Swiss delegate to the meeting.

"Rumsfeld warns over China military buildup

US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld warned that China is spending considerably more on a major military buildup than officially acknowledged.(AFP/File/Frederic Brown)

China's military buildup and its defense spending -- considerably higher than reported -- is threatening the military balance in Asia, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said at the weekend. Rumsfeld urged Beijing's communist rulers to embrace a more open and representative form of government.

Speaking at a gathering of regional defense ministers in Singapore, Rumsfeld advanced the Bush administration's democracy theme by hailing transitions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon, but he was frank about the absence of political freedom in China and North Korea."

7. It's more about stealing private research than actual spying,
There have been rumors and speculation for years that the a percentage of the thousands of Chinese students on study visas working in North America and Europe are sending results of any government or private industry contracted studies that could help the peoples republic back home.

9. Defector says he was rebuffed by US
The high-ranking Chinese diplomat who defected here two weeks ago only to be rebuffed by the Australian government says he also sought political asylum at the US Embassy and was turned away.
The defector, Chen Yonglin (???), a 37-year-old career diplomat, said on Monday in his first interview with a foreign journalist that he had called the US Embassy in Canberra and followed up with a fax.

"My wife, my 6-year-old daughter and I are now in a desperate status," Chen wrote on June 4 in his faxed appeal to the US Embassy, which he showed to the New York Times.
