Dems Accuse GOP of Failing to Back Troops

Dems Accuse GOP of Failing to Back Troops
By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer

Friday, May 27, 2005

(05-27) 12:58 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

House Republicans are accused of failing to support National Guard and Reserve troops in an advertising campaign the House Democratic campaign committee is rolling out this weekend.

Timed for Memorial Day, radio commercials paid for by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee are planned for a dozen House districts.

The ads criticize Congress for rejecting a plan to permanently extend health care coverage to National Guard and Reserve members and their families. It would have given them similar benefits as active-duty troops.

Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., offered the proposal as the House debated a bill that sets defense policy and plans spending for next year. Many Republicans opposed Taylor's plan, saying it was too expensive.

1. Thank you Howard Dean.
This has been the sort of criticism that has been long overdue.

5. Super News Dump!
It's so nice of the supine democrats and the complicit press to both publish this story and waste money on this "advertising campaign."

The Friday before a three-day weekend is the ultimate place to dump a story. And Memorial Day weekend is one of the times most people pay very little attention to things like this.

But this made me laugh: "Many Republicans opposed Taylor's plan, saying it was too expensive." Yes, we can't interrupt the continuing funneling of the treasury to the rich, can we?

22. More than brings it up, I would say...
...it's exactly in line with what General Clark has been saying everywhere. My best guess is that it's part of what he's been actively counseling Pelosi and Reid about.

I hope the other side tries to f*** with him about it. He has the credentials and the force to beat the shit out of them (as he put it himself, overheard last year) on this issue, which will continue to be an important one for years to come.

He's helping more and more Democrats to show that there's meaning behind "Duty, Honor, Country".

11. My goodness...what strange creatures are these?
I had come to believe that this species, with the rare anomaly, had devolved to such an extent that it no longer had teeth or spines.

Let's hope this report isn't an aberration, but the beginning of a pattern.

14. That is exactly right!! These fucking chickenhawks don't give
a shit about our troops -- it is all chin music from them.

All they care about is having enough bodies to do their dirty work and guard "their" fucking oil interests.

The Dems need to speak up and show this country what phonies these assholes are. This is unbelievable to me.

17. Won't do any good unless the Dems get on message with it
ie. EVERY Dem need to talk about it at once, in unison on the airwaves.

18. yeah, in accord
with previous posts. The repukes only see the advantage of a great "christian soldier" army marching on towards world hegemony. NO way my son will serve as fodder for this idiocy and evil. Pray they fail. I'd rather face peak oil and not be able to drive the Healey - what a trivial complaint. ...... I rather our country be reduced to third world status than to see this hideous evil perpetrated upon the world. At least we would then have a chance to regain honor.

20. ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!
Seriously!!

We need to say this often and all the time. We don't need to explain ourselves because then we lose our audience which has the attention span of an AHDH gnat.

Just say it because it's true. Let the repukes make the excuses
