Mars Rover Spirit Finds Wet, Violent Past
ASADENA, Calif. - The Mars rover Spirit has discovered several layers of rocks in a hilly region of the Red Planet that suggest a wet and violent history in the planet's early life, scientists said Tuesday.

---snip

The debris is most likely ash that settled after volcanic eruptions, scientists said, although they could not rule out the possibility of an impact explosion.

---snip

"Once upon a time, Gusev was a pretty violent place. Big, explosive events were happening and there was a lot of water around," said principal investigator Steve Squyres of Cornell University.

1. If they find evidence of primitive life on Mars, what will the fundies say
Seriously, won't that be a little tough for them?

3. How much were they affected by...
the discovery that the earth goes around the sun, or that the earth is millions rather than thousands of years old, or that there was no global flood, or dinosaur bones, or the realization that all life on earth is obviously (by genetics) related to all other life?

It won't penetrate their shields, sadly.

4. I Think They WILL Find Primitive Bacteria
and I think it will be tough on a lot of uneducated fundies. It will no more kill the evangelical movement than Galileo's discoveries did, but it will definitely shift public opinion. Once there's a discussion of actual life on Mars, evolutionary biologists will be all over the media. There will be no way to stop it, and anyone who denies that the life forms are unrelated will look like an idiot.

At least that's how I imagine it.

It's a great decade for planetary science. One of the exciting things now is that the gulf between life and non-life (or at least organic and inorganic) is becoming smaller as more complex carbon molecules are found outside the earth.

6. no problem
God created life on Mars 6000 years ago at the same time he created the rest of the universe. Prove that he didn't, mister smarty-pants know-it-all. But I still don't know where Adam and Eve's daughters-in-law came from - who was Mrs. Seth and Mrs. Cain, anyway?

19. No problem, step 2
God created life on Mars 6000 years ago at the same time he created the rest of the universe.

Not only that, he preferred the life he created on Earth and abandoned the life on Mars. Even more proof of God's divine blessing on the humanoid species.

Whoa. It's scary to think like a fundie.

9. Like fossils, put there to test our faith.
Or, put there by Satan.
Or, the result of Noah's flood (I know it wouldn't make any sense).

10. They'll just chalk it all up to intelligent design.
After all if God is willing to plant fake dinosaur fossils why wouldn't he plant fake evidence on Mars too.
:silly:

5. Have any of you seen the Christian Museum in the news?
Actually, there may be more than one. But they have actual displays of humans living with dinosaurs, including a SADDLE ON A TRICERATOPS (saw that picture on the evening news about 2 months ago)

Anyway, here's a link to a story about one if you want to get really annoyed.

15. Does He Have Exhibits of Giants?
They're in the Bible, after all:

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them (Genesis 6:4).

Where the words interesting are! Look above the "ing" at the bottom of the photo. You should see a little skull with two eye sockets, nasal hole and a smiley mouth.

Yikes!

17. Hey, Here are a Few Others
The pictures were starting to get repetitive -- all flat plains with scattered boulders. Now this this other stuff shows up.

Exposed bedrock at "Larry's Outcrop" shows little layering in this view, in contrast to nearby outcrops called "Methuselah" and "Jibsheet." NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit used its panoramic camera in May 2005 to take this image

Leave the Earth with all it's fudie nuts behind, We could have our very own planet. Live out life in peace while the freaks here on Earth wait for there stupid Rapture. Then when Jeebus finaly comes for them we can have 2 planets to ourselves.

21. I think you have it turned around just a bit
I'm sure God intended for Democrats to inhabit Earth, and Repubs to inhabit Mars - he even color-coded the planets as a visual reminder. And just remember, most Repubs will still be here after "the rapture"- ain't no way they're getting to heaven the way they're acting these days.
