Bush struggles in magazine poll
May 15, 2005

US PRESIDENT George W. Bush is still struggling to convince Americans to back his policies, according to a Time magazine poll released today which said 47 per cent of the public disapproves of his action.

The poll put his approval rating at 46 per cent, while the number opposed was the same as for the last poll one month ago.

Mr Bush's popularity rating fell below 50 per cent in March, largely on public concerns about his handling of the faltering economy, rising gas prices and his plans to reform the Social Security pension program.

But the Iraq insurgency has also rattled the public with just 41 per cent of respondents saying they approve of his handling of the crisis and 55 per cent saying they disapprove.

Mr Bush's popularity registered a particularly steep decline among the elderly, with 55 per cent of Americans aged 65 or older disapproving.

Poor, poor pitiful George. Nobody loves him anymore. BTW: has anyone seen George since the red alert last week? He's really laying low and poor Condi even had to go to Iraq to try to save his butt. Things must be even worse then they are admitting.

5. Link please
I heard McCain say the filibuster was screwing up Bush's ability to push his agenda, not that he should have his agenda with no filibuster. The first is a criticism of the Republican leadership, the second is a call for fascism. Big difference.

3. I would imagine that...
If it hasn't started already, that sharp words are getting ready to be exchanged in the White House. Somewhere in their malign agenda, they are going to have to back off. Should be interesting to see where that will be.

4. Did they even talk to any republicans? Republicans are pissed
with the state of things. Yet again the corporate media is keeping his numbers above 40%.

8. When in the last two plus years has his approval rate topped 50%?
It was below that on the day he was "elected".

13. The headline should read: "Bush Divides Nation"
Because that's what he did.

After 9-11, he had 90% approval and now the country is sharply divided.
Much of the division has to do with the War in Iraq, the Patriot Acts handling of the economy.

There's been an effort to blame gay marriage but the divisions were there before the topic came on the scene.

9. Kick

Small beans, but a little morale boost never hurt.

And I join the usual DU chorus in wondering why his approval is even close to 46 percent.

Oh please let them catch him with a male intern. Please God. That is what it would take to make any damn difference.

10. What does it matter what his "approval" is? He's still in till '08.
He could be polling 3% and he'd STILL be pretzeldent until '08.
Like the Sheeple are going to demand his resignation or anything like that?

Only satisfaction I get from low numbers is the ability to say "Oh? so HOW do you fuckin' like him NOW?????"

15. Ever hear of the mid-term elections?
The lower his numbers, the less likely he'll have blind support from members of congress who will face voters in 2006.

The goals of the Bush administration are limited by the desire to maintain a Republican majority in congress.

Low approval is good seriously good news because the next best thing to an impeached Dubya is a neutered Dubya.

16. I don't see it.
They could turn up video of him in an "embarrassing situation" and Steve Buyer would STILL cheerlead for him.

"Th' prezzdent's poll nummers is down! It's them dam Liberuls fault! Guess we better head out to Wallmart an' buy some more yaller mag-nuts for the Voyager!"
