Senator Chaffee supports Social Security Plan
Sellout!! Does anyone still think this guy is a moderate?

No matter how you try to spin it, or sell it, benefits are reduced drastically.

Sen. Chafee supports Social Security plan
5/6/2005, 10:32 a.m. ET
By GLEN JOHNSON
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — A centrist Republican senator who opposes President Bush's proposal of private investment accounts for Social Security is endorsing the president's call for a change in calculating benefits that would cut future checks for all but low-income workers.

Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, part of a group of moderates whose support both parties feel will be necessary to achieve any Social Security compromise, said Bush could boost his sales pitch — and force Democrats into outlining plans of their own — by dropping his talk of personal investment accounts.

1. What Sen. Chafee DOESN'T seem to understand
is that Dumbyass made it clear that he wants to ram through the plan with personal investment accounts. He'd do well to throw in his lot with the Democrats on this one.

13. If you are upset with Chafee, what about Clinton?
Why should the Dems say anything but "No Caps". Fuck the focus group.

5. There are just a few simple facts.
Edited on Fri May-06-05 11:19 AM by SoCalDem
1. Boomers paid "extra" money for 45 years
2. It was for our Grandparents, Parents AND pre-paying OURS.
3. Congress/Presidents SPENT IT.
4. They have NO INTENTION of paying it back
5. They don't even TRY to address this fact.
6. Future "recipients" are being "primed" to blame everyone BUT the ones who stole the money.

It always strikes me as ODD that the Social Security EXCESS was tagged as "extra INCOME TAX" that just HAD to be returned to wealthy people who probably didn't even pay their "fair share" to start with...and the "press" just went right along with the scam..

Had they done their JOBS when the whole "tax-giveaway" talk started, the public would have never been so easily bought off with $300 "payday loans", while the well-off raided the SS fund money..

Of course, most of the "on-air press" are very wealthy people, so it personally benefited them, so who cares if a bunch of "less fortunate" get screwed, if it means that they can upgrade their own lifestyles?

6. He's trying not to get re-elected.
It's the only explanation for his recent behavior.

Chafee's dilemma: he hates being a Republican, but apparently promised his Dad (on the late senator's deathbed) he would never be a Republican.

Solution: adopt positions unpalatable to his constituency and force them to elect a real Democrat.

Pure bullshit, but it makes a good story.

11. They must have something on him -- he's been twisting in the wind for
some time now. Too bad. I once thought the guy was more independent. But his comments on this, judges, and Bolton smack of pressures from *...Rove must be doing a dance on this guy's grave.

14. If we cut Social Security taxes, revenues will INCREASE!
Problem solved, the Republican way.

Personally, if I was Harry Reid, I'd have every Democrat announce that this is their new plan to save Social Security. Republicans can't call them on it because they keep harping about how cutting taxes increases government revenue, so they can't suddenly change their minds and say it cuts revenue (which is actually does).

Then when Republicans object to the plan, Democrats can call them a bunch of big-spending socialists.

16. Goodbye Chafee.
Now it's time to crush him politically. "Chafee Supports Social Security Benefit Cut." That's all we need to say, again and again, to destroy the "centrist" label and smash him.
