White House Challenges DeLay Allegations Ahead of Probe
:puke: :puke: :puke:

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050501/pl_nm/bush_delay_dc

The White House stepped up its defense of embattled Rep. Tom DeLay (news, bio, voting record) on Sunday, disputing the merit of ethics allegations against the House majority leader ahead of an expected congressional probe.

While White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card said it was "a matter for the House to consider" whether DeLay violated any House rules, he added: "We have no reason to believe that they (the rules) haven't been followed."

"We have not seen anything that would suggest that those allegations have any merit," Card told NBC's "Meet the Press," going beyond recent statements of support from President Bush.

-snip-

"I don't know anyone who believes that there is necessarily merit to the allegations that have been put forward," Card said.

12. Yeah - typical WH flow.
First, 'Card said it was "a matter for the House to consider"'. Then he turns around and says that there is no truth to the allegations. Boy, the WH sure knows we're all stupid, don't they?

3. Why would White House take this risk?
Bush and Delay weren't exactly allies back in Texas. The White House seemed eager to establish some distance from Delay earlier. Has Delay been able to convince Bush that their fate is somehow tied together? Wouldn't an inquiring media mind want to explore this?

4. I don't think they had a choice.
Delay is slime, but he's not dumb. He's managed to turn this into an attack on conservative "values." Hence, the core fundies believe that if Bush abandons Delay, he is abandoning them.

It's going to be really nice when that anchor known as Tom Delay starts to pull down the White House with him.

15. What does the "White House Chief of Staff" and "Deputy Chief of Staff" job
description say? Is there a place I can find this information? I really don't get the connection between running a staff and running the rest of the country. What am I missing? Is the job title misleading?

Bush staff chief asks Democrats to cooperate
Monday, May 02, 2005
Liz Sidoti
Associated Press

Washington - President Bush's chief of staff appealed on Sunday for congressional Democrats to work with the administration and Republicans rather than complain and stall action on Capitol Hill.

Andrew Card, appearing on Sunday talk shows, also reaffirmed the president's support for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, the Texas Republican whose ties to lobbyists have raised ethics questions, and John Bolton, the controversial nominee to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

"We'd like to see more cooperation from the Democrats," Card said.
"We have some serious problems in this country that must be addressed," he told "Fox News Sunday."
Asked whether Democrats were being obstructionists, Card said: "On some issues I think they are."

Democrats deny they are holding up progress. Rather, they say the president is unwilling to reach compromises with the minority party.

23. Cooperation = shut up and agree. If I was an elected Democrat I
would constantly repeat the following: I'd be happy to cooperate with the fixing of social security (as long as cooperate doesn't mean shut up and agree) but will not be a party to such fiscal irresponsibility.
