Frist Won't Budge on Filibuster Demands
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 02:12 PM by UCLA Dem
WASHINGTON - With a showdown looming, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist refused to budge Thursday on his demand that Democrats forgo filibusters against all of President Bush's past or present nominees to federal appellate court benches or the Supreme Court.

"Throughout this debate, we have held firm to a simple principle, judicial nominees deserve up-or-down votes," Frist said.

But Frist offered to retain the right to filibuster district court nominees in exchange for 100 hours of debate and guaranteed confirmation votes on the nation's highest judgeships. The Senate's top Republican also said that under his plan, senators would no longer be able to block nominees in the Judiciary Committee.

"Judicial nominees are being denied. Justice is being denied. The solution is simple, allow senators to do their jobs and vote," Frist said in a speech on the Senate floor.

10. Exactly what Gore said in his speech.
Gore's speech was spot-on. These bastards are trying to claim that this filibustering of judicial nominations has never been done. Bullshit! Johnson had to withdraw a supreme court nominee because the person was filibustered by the Mepublicans. Gore also spoke of filibustering someone so that they don't even make it out of committee which happened many times to Clinton nominees.

Gore was on fire! He should be our president.

16. It is a must-see!
Gore is angry and is speaking my mind more and more. He really calls bullshit on these holier-than-thou idiots. There is a transcript out there somewhere. I tell you, I am ready to march on this issue. We need to march; every person of faith, every atheist, every capitalist, every constitutionalist, every Democrat and every Mepublican who understands that separation of church and state is critical to democracy.

4. Screw you Frist
You know what??? Democrats are doing a fine job, considering they have nothing...as in not the House, not the Senate, and not the WH. The Republicans are trying to push every agenda they have that is bad for this country, and they are getting found out and exposed at every turn!

We need to keep hammering the message...WHY DO REPUBLICANS ALWAYS WANT TO CHANGE THE RULES IN MIDSTREAM...ALWAYS

Changing Ethics rules, changing filibuster rules....even a 4 year old will cry "NOT FAIR" if you change the rules in the middle of something to suit you or favor you if you are not getting your way.

5. Reid...
"Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said he would look at Frist's offer, but wasn't all that charitable in his description. "It's a big wet kiss to the far right," he said.

A big wet kiss. I'll leave you to figure which part of the human anatomy is being kissed. :eyes:

9. What about Clinton's nominees?
Repubes blocked *65* of Clinton's nominees - a lot of them didn't even make it out of committee! Was "justice being denied" then?

BTW, Dems have blocked *10* of the Boy King's nominees.

20. Why don't Democrats talk about Clinton's judges more?
It almost never shows up in the news. I know the media is right wing, but Democrats could do a lot better with their talking points too.

13. Judge agreement is always important, where issue agreement often is.
We need to be able to stop some people from becoming judges.

If Bolton destroys the UN, OK, we rebuild it.
If a judge destroys someones life, it cannot be fixed.

Saying no to a judge shoold be an individual choice. Just why a filibuster is needed.

15. This has nothing to do with federal court nominees.
And everything about stacking the supreme court with far right wing nut jobs. The repukes set it up so that these nut jobs cannot be blocked in committee and not filibustered. Then gods help us all!

21. If senators aren't doing their job, it has NOTHING to do with filibusters.
Frist is turning into a real piece of work, isn't he? I do believe he has been tapped to be the official distraction for the DeLay debacle.
