Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas declined Thursday to prosecute an Army reservist who acknowledged having held seven Mexican men at gunpoint at a southwestern Arizona rest stop.

Sgt. Patrick Haab did not commit a crime and was making a lawful citizen's arrest when he detained six illegal immigrants and the man smuggling them, Thomas said at a news conference.

Thomas said that after a complete analysis of the issues involved and the applicable law, "prosecution is not appropriate."

The law and facts supported his decision that Haab had a valid defense, Thomas added.

I believe that righteous people like myself should start pulling over drunk bastards with W'04 stickers leaving their local pubs, administering a field sobriety test and holding them at gunpoint until the police get there. They're not opposed to profiling so the W'04 sticker is the perfect way to safely profile republican lard asses. We should also start arresting them for failing to use signals when changing lanes, for ass-breath halitosis and for bad hair in public.

I mean, why not just have vigilante law enforcement everywhere! Then we wouldn't even need police.

and we don't even have to wait for the House to issue a Bill of Impeachment.

The Maricopa County Attorney apparently does not understand the significance of his interpretation. The Citizen's arrest defense doctrine can lead to things which he, a Republican, may not find so politically attractive as waving handguns at undocumented immigrants.
