White House Supportive of Embattled DeLay
CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush considers House Majority Leader Tom DeLay a friend and hopes to keep working with him, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Monday.

McClellan was asked if Bush was among those who believe the embattled Texas Republican should resign, or at least answer allegations of ethical misconduct.

"Majority Leader DeLay is someone the president considers a friend. And he is someone he has worked closely with to get things done in Washington," McClellan said.

"The president looks forward to continuing to work closely with the majority leader to get things done on behalf of the American people," McClellan said. "We support the work that he's doing."

13. A guy like Tom Delay is a rare & valuable asset to the BUSH CRIME FAMILY.
DeLay is smart, savvy, has not one drop of conscience, and is 100% loyal to the cause. Plus, the religious right & big business both love the guy....because he'll do ANYTHING for money.

An asset like DeLay is very hard to find. Losing him would be like Tony Soprano losing Silvio...or John Gotti losing his #1 hit man. Tom DeLay is a dream come true for any master crime family.

3. This statement is anything but supportive
"President Bush considers House Majority Leader Tom DeLay a friend and hopes to keep working with him..."

This is really tepid support. I'm certain that DeLay knows this is pretty much his death-knell. Drag 'em down with you when you go, Tom.

5. i agree, "Hopes" sounds a little weak

10. Bush owes DeLay's rioting staffers the White House.
No way he would abandon DeLay.

DeLay could sink the Bushes and destroy the Republican Party if he wanted to.

They would destroy each other. But it would never happen...both know the other has the goods on them. They are in this together to the end.

11. This is like the infamous 'vote of confidence' for NBA coaches.
The thing is, Bush can't directly fire DeLay. I know people are acting like it, but DeLay, if he is stubborn - which is in his background - might prove very hard to get rid of.

12. This is beginning to look like the call for Rumsfeld's resigning
They let Rumsfeld twist in the wind for a couple of days and then the WH comes out with an endorsement of him. The media then backed off.

Wonder if that is what they have planned for Delay. I guess we will see if the media starts backing off this story also.

18. Uh.........Parse it, folks.
First:
"Majority Leader DeLay is someone the president considers a friend. And he is someone he has worked closely with to get things done in Washington," McClellan said.

That was their history.

Second: "The president looks forward to continuing to work closely with the majority leader to get things done on behalf of the American people," McClellan said. "We support the work that he's doing."

The second emphasizes working with "the majority leader" WHO COULD BE ANYBODY IN THE FUTURE. And the "support" is for "the work."

That was written REALLY CAREFULLY.

20. They see blood in the water
Notice how they didn't say anything about nonsensical and vicious partisan attacks. That means that they basically acknowledge that the nasty stuff is true and holds weight.

This administration can make up imaginary weapons of mass destruction, but they can't completely ignore the evidence against Tom Delay. That's significant.
